Djokovic speaks again on retirement: Absolutely no plans!

This week's tour is dominated by the contest for the WTA year-end finals. After the group stage matches ended, Rybakina, competing in the Serena Williams group, achieved a perfect 3-0 record, collecting 600 points and $1.405 million, thus securing her place in the semifinals as the top player of her group.

It’s important to note that Rybakina’s participation in the year-end finals this year was hard-earned; she fought hard during the Asian season to accumulate points and ultimately clinched her spot at the last moment, pushing Andreeva out of the lineup.

In the battle for second place between Swiatek and Anisimova, despite winning the first set in a tiebreak, Swiatek was then defeated in two consecutive sets 6-4, 6-2 by her opponent. Ultimately, Swiatek lost this crucial knockout match and failed to advance from the group stage for the second consecutive year.

With this, Swiatek’s 2025 season has come to an end. Reflecting on the Polish star’s performance this year, securing a Grand Slam title and a WTA 1000 championship is already an impressive achievement. We look forward to her maintaining consistent form next year.

On the men’s side, although this week features two ATP 250 tournaments, the participation of well-known players like Djokovic has drawn significant attention to these lower-tier events. The ATP 250 Athens event has just finalized its quarterfinal lineup, with the matchups as follows:

[1] Djokovic vs. [6] Borges

Jilong vs. [Q] Hanfmann

Korda vs. Kecmanovic

[5] Miller vs. [2] Musetti

Among the news, stories about Djokovic have consistently dominated the ATP headlines. Earlier reports claimed Djokovic was confirmed to participate in the year-end finals this year, but he quickly denied this information himself.

“I don’t know where he (the Italian Tennis Federation president) got that information, but it definitely wasn’t from me or my team, because I will make my decision after this tournament (Athens) concludes.”

Additionally, discussions about Djokovic’s retirement have resurfaced. Indeed, as a veteran born in 1987 who turned professional in 2003, Djokovic has competed in tennis for over twenty years—a rare feat for any athlete—especially since he still maintains a top-level performance today.

“Many might have thought my career would end after the Olympics (where I won the gold medal). But I don’t play tennis just for results; of course, achievements are a major motivation, but I also genuinely enjoy playing the sport.”

From Djokovic’s response, it’s clear how much he loves the game. “I feel I still have the drive and desire to face new challenges.” We hope Djokovic continues to compete in the tennis world for several more seasons!(Source: Tennis Home, Author: Barbie)
