Carlos Alcaraz is currently a leading figure in men’s tennis worldwide. Yet, a recently released statistic reveals he still harbors a significant weakness in his game and must continue improving to perfect himself.
In the last two seasons, Alcaraz and Sinner have nearly dominated the major tournaments—prestigious events that define a player’s historical standing. The Spanish athlete won both Roland Garros and the US Open, each time defeating Sinner in the finals.
Meanwhile, Sinner kicked off the season impressively by winning the Australian Open, then defeated Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final, ending the young Spaniard’s two-year reign on the famed grass courts at London’s Centre Court.
Alcaraz is frequently compared to the legendary “Big Three” of world tennis.
However, detailed analysis of the 2025 season statistics uncovered a notable fact: Alcaraz ranks only 19th in first-serve point-winning percentage. This is quite astonishing considering his win tally this year—69 victories out of 79 matches played—the best record among the ATP elite.
Leading the first-serve point-winning percentage chart is American Taylor Fritz at 79.71%. Close behind is fellow American Reilly Opelka with 79.22%. Sinner is third with 79.09%, while Alexander Bublik—having his best career season—holds 78.62%. Following them are young French prospect Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, Jakub Mensik, Felix Auger-Aliassime, and Andrey Rublev. Novak Djokovic ranks ninth with a 76.55% success rate.
Alcaraz ranking 19th, just after Ugo Humbert, is a clear sign that there is still room for him to improve. In the statistic of first-serve accuracy, Alcaraz is even lower at 20th, while Alexander Zverev leads this category.
Still, Alcaraz demonstrates greater efficiency in defending his service games, ranking sixth in service games won and third in second-serve point-winning percentage.
Over the past two years, his serve—particularly the second serve—has improved considerably, providing Alcaraz with a valuable tool to handle critical moments. Nonetheless, these statistics indicate the 22-year-old player still has plenty of room to grow.
When a young talent already boasts achievements surpassing many legends early in their careers yet still has areas to upgrade, it signals that Alcaraz’s future journey remains very broad and full of potential.
