The two will face off in a highly anticipated match on December 28 this year in Dubai, UAE.
Half a century after the iconic 1973 "Battle of the Sexes," the tennis world will witness a modern version of this symbolic match. Officially announced, Aryna Sabalenka, the world No. 1, will compete against Nick Kyrgios in the exhibition event titled "Battle of the Sexes: Dubai Showdown" at Coca-Cola Arena on December 28, 2025.
The match is organized by TLive in collaboration with IM8, Dubai's Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), and Coca-Cola Arena. It is regarded as one of the most eagerly awaited sports-entertainment events of the year, marking the first time the "Battle of the Sexes" is revived in the Middle East.
The original 1973 match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs in Houston, USA, made a global impact, promoting gender equality in sports and elevating women's tennis. Although this reenactment carries strong entertainment elements, it maintains the spirit of sportsmanship and honors the value of both genders in the sport.
"I have immense respect for Billie Jean King and everything she has done for women's tennis. I am proud to represent women's tennis in this modern version of the iconic match. Dubai feels like home to me, and I am eager to give my all for the fans.", Aryna Sabalenka expressed.
Meanwhile, Nick Kyrgios — known for his fiery playing style — confirmed he is ready to accept the challenge: "When the world No. 1 wants to play against you, you can’t say no. I respect Aryna; she is a true champion, but I’m not just here to compete — I’m here to put on an outstanding show. Dubai, get ready, because I’m bringing the heat to Coca-Cola Arena."
Mark McFarlane, CEO of TLive, stated: "We are thrilled to bring the modern version of the 'Battle of the Sexes' to Dubai — a gathering of two of tennis’s most captivating figures, in an evening celebrating skill, personality, and sportsmanship."
