Jannik Sinner must promptly protect his top world ranking at the 2025 ATP Finals in the face of rivalry from Carlos Alcaraz.
Jannik Sinner reclaimed the world No. 1 position after defeating Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-4, 7-6 in the Paris Masters 2025 final held last night on November 2nd, Vietnam time. This victory allowed Sinner to surpass Carlos Alcaraz, who was unexpectedly eliminated in the second round, to retake the ATP ranking lead.
With his first Masters 1000 title in Paris, Sinner continued his impressive form throughout the 2025 season. However, the race for the year-end No. 1 spot remains undecided, as he enters the ATP Finals in Turin (from November 9 to 16) with more ranking points to defend than Alcaraz. The Spanish player exited at the group stage last year, while Sinner is the defending champion.
"It's not entirely in my hands, but of course, I'm very happy to be back at No. 1.", Sinner said after the final. "I knew from the start of the week that this opportunity would come. My goal was to work hard every day and maximize my potential – and I achieved that this week. Now we will rest and prepare as best as possible for Turin."
Interestingly, just days before the tournament began, Sinner admitted at a press conference that he did not expect to finish 2025 as world No. 1. However, with Alcaraz’s early exit, the Italian player made history and will soon turn the ATP Finals into the decisive battle for the year-end championship.
"Before every tournament, I always try to perform at my best, and then whatever happens will happen.", Sinner added. "At Turin, I will do the same – focus on myself and try to play my best tennis."
