WTA Jiujiang Tournament: Bai Zhuoxuan Exits at Quarterfinals, Grubusic Advances in Title Defense

On October 31st, 2025, the WTA250 Jiujiang event held its singles quarterfinal matches. Chinese player Bai Zhuoxuan fought for 1 hour and 27 minutes but was defeated 3-6, 4-6 by Czech competitor Sárková, missing out on a spot in the semifinals.

Since last year's US Open, Bai Zhuoxuan had stayed off the court and came into this event without a ranking. However, entering the main draw using a protected ranking, she performed impressively—eliminating top seed Li Jinyu, who had just won in Guangzhou last week, in the first round; then overcoming compatriot Guo Hanyu in the second round after dropping the first set to reach the quarterfinals. In this match, facing the Czech player Sárková who showed strong baseline offense and defense, Bai had limited options and ultimately lost in straight sets. Although she did not advance, Bai earned 54 ranking points and $6,820 in prize money this week, which will boost her world ranking to approximately No. 694 next Monday.

In other matches, Blinkova defeated the 3rd seed Parks 7-5, 7-5 to become Sárková’s opponent in the semifinals. Defending champion and 2nd seed Grubusic overcame a 1-5 deficit in the first set to beat 5th seed Pudinceva 7-5, 6-2, extending her winning streak in Jiujiang singles to eight matches. She will face wildcard entrant Tagger for a place in the final, who won her quarterfinal match in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 against Kopach.
