Paris Masters Quarterfinals: Cousin Takes Top Seed in Upper Half, Fierce Competition in Lower Half

The third round of the Paris Masters is over. Notably, Vasherov, a wildcard entrant, grabs attention as the No. 1 seed. The other seven quarterfinalists are all seeded players.

Quarterfinal Matchups

In the upper half, only the final top seed remains, No. 6 Deminal. No. 1 seed Alcaraz and No. 8 seed Ruud were eliminated in their first matches, while No. 4 seed Fritz was defeated by Bublyk.

Vasherov (WC) versus Aliassime (9), with no prior head-to-head encounters. As a newcomer on the tour, Vasherov has very limited experience against top 30 players. After winning the Shanghai Masters, he has continued his streak in Paris with three consecutive wins, achieving a 10-match winning streak at ATP1000 events. Currently, he carries unstoppable momentum on court. With no ranking points to defend, every win is a bonus. Meanwhile, Aliassime is pushing hard to secure the last spot for the year-end finals and needs at least a finals appearance. This match promises to be highly competitive.

Bublyk (13) versus Deminal (6).Their head-to-head stands at 1–3. Their most recent meeting was in the second round of this year’s French Open, where Bublyk won 3–2 over Deminal. Bublyk has had a strong 2025 season with a 33–20 record and has already claimed four titles, half of his career total of eight. Deminal recently secured qualification for the year-end finals and might relax a bit if he faces difficulties on court. This could be Bublyk’s chance. Moreover, Bublyk confidently defeated No. 4 seed Fritz in straight sets 7-5, 6-2 in the third round.

The competition in the lower half is even fiercer, featuring two former world No. 1 players — Medvedev and Sinner — and a former world No. 2, Zverev. Shelton is the new ATP1000 champion this year, having won in Toronto this August.

Medvedev (11) versus Zverev (3). These longtime rivals have a head-to-head record of 14–7. Even during Medvedev’s slump in the 2025 season, he still managed to beat Zverev twice. Zverev has now suffered five consecutive losses to Medvedev.

Medvedev’s form is currently improving, while Zverev remains steady. Medvedev’s chances of reaching the year-end finals are slim unless he wins in Paris to keep hope alive. Zverev is the defending champion in Paris and will likely put up a tough fight against Medvedev.

Sinner (2) versus Shelton (5).Their head-to-head is 6–1 in favor of Sinner, who has won six straight matches against Shelton.

Currently, Sinner holds advantages in every aspect, so Shelton must go all out. Shelton has just qualified for the year-end finals and has no worries, which might help him play freely. If the match reaches a third set, Shelton has a chance to win since Sinner may have a minor muscle issue in his left leg that could affect his performance in prolonged high-intensity play.

Therefore, Shelton only needs to perform at his best and raise his level to fight hard.
