The eight players competing in the 2025 WTA Finals in Saudi Arabia early next November have been finalized.
This morning, October 24th Vietnam time, Elena Rybakina defeated young Canadian player Victoria Mboko 6-3, 7-6 to reach the semifinals of the 2025 Pan Pacific Open. This victory not only advanced her in Tokyo but also secured her the 8th and final spot at the WTA Finals, taking place in Saudi Arabia from November 1st to 8th.
"I’m very happy to have passed the qualifying rounds and continue competing against top players. Last week, I focused on one match at a time, and in the end, everything went very well.", Rybakina said after the match. This marks the third consecutive year the Kazakh player has qualified for the prestigious year-end tournament.
Previously, Rybakina won the Ningbo Open in China — a title that significantly boosted her ranking in the Race to WTA Finals. The 26-year-old’s consistent performance allowed her to surpass direct rival Mirra Andreeva in the fight for the last spot.
In the match against Mboko, Rybakina started strongly by winning the first three games in a row and closed out the first set 6-3. In the second set, 19-year-old Mboko challenged fiercely with a set point opportunity, but Rybakina skillfully saved it and won the tiebreak 7-4. Throughout the match, the Asian player delivered 5 aces and recorded a total of 23 winners, surpassing her opponent’s 17 winners.
"It was a tough match. I’m glad to have won in straight sets, especially performing better on my serve during the tiebreak.", Rybakina commented.
In the semifinals, Rybakina will face sixth seed Linda Noskova from the Czech Republic. On the other side of the draw, Belinda Bencic of Switzerland will compete against former Grand Slam champion Sofia Kenin from the USA, who dramatically defeated third seed Ekaterina Alexandrova.
The 2025 WTA Finals will feature the world’s top eight players: Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, Amanda Anisimova, Madison Keys, Jessica Pegula, Jasmine Paolini, and Elena Rybakina — promising an exciting climax to this year’s season.
