The 2025 US Open men’s singles semifinal will feature a major showdown: 22-year-old Spanish sensation Alcaraz is preparing to challenge Serbian icon Djokovic once more.
In the quarterfinals, Alcaraz cruised past Czech player Lehecka 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 to advance easily; Djokovic endured a four-set battle, defeating American hope Fritz 6-3, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 to reach the semifinals. The two will meet on September 6 at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
After the match, Alcaraz openly expressed his desire for revenge in the press conference: “We all know Novak’s playing style. Although he hasn’t competed since Wimbledon, he still showed top-level tennis here. I understand his hunger for victory and know he has even bigger ambitions. We’ve faced each other many times, and I really want to get my revenge.”
The “revenge” Alcaraz refers to is his loss in the Australian Open quarterfinals earlier this year. Despite winning the first set, he was overturned by Djokovic 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4.
Currently, Djokovic leads their head-to-head record 5-3. Moreover, in the last two crucial encounters, the Serbian has narrowly come out on top. At last year’s Paris Olympics, 38-year-old Djokovic defeated Alcaraz in straight sets in the final, securing the gold medal and completing his career “Golden Slam.” Earlier this year at the Australian Open, he once again edged out Alcaraz, reaffirming his dominance in Grand Slam tournaments.
Notably, Alcaraz previously mentioned in an interview that he and Djokovic never discuss tennis when they interact: “I have talked with Novak many times, watched his matches, and trained with him. But we never talk about tennis or matches. I prefer to chat about life rather than tennis.”
He also admitted he enjoys watching Djokovic’s matches and often learns by observing him during training and competition: “I like watching how he moves, plays, and trains, but I don’t actively seek tennis advice from him.”
As the two meet again at the US Open, the question remains: will Alcaraz achieve his revenge, or will Djokovic once again prove his legendary prowess? The answer will be revealed at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
According to ATP statistics, Alcaraz has already secured a tour-leading 59 wins and 6 titles in the 2025 season, aiming to surpass his own best of 65 wins and 6 titles set in 2023. Meanwhile, this week’s US Open results are pivotal in the race for world No.1; if Alcaraz matches or outperforms defending champion Sinner in New York, he will reclaim the top spot for the first time since September 2023.
When asked about ranking pressure, Alcaraz remained composed: “If I focus too much on being No.1, it adds pressure, and I don’t want that. I just want to step on the court, play my game, work towards my goals, and try to enjoy the matches. The No.1 spot is there, but I try not to think about it too much.”(Source: Tennis Home, Author: Spark)
