US Open 2025 Draw: Djokovic Faces Vietnamese-Origin Player in Opening Match, Could a Major Upset Occur?

Novak Djokovic will face Vietnamese-origin player Learner Tien in the first round of the 2025 US Open. This is an exciting pairing with unpredictable results expected.

Djokovic Must Be Careful of Learner Tien

The 2025 US Open draw took place early Friday morning (Vietnam time), bringing many thrilling first-round matchups. Notably, Novak Djokovic, the 24-time Grand Slam winner, will open against young Vietnamese talent Learner Tien.

Seventh seed Novak Djokovic, who hasn’t played since the Wimbledon semifinals five weeks ago, will meet Learner Tien, the reigning runner-up of the NextGen ATP Finals. The 19-year-old, of Vietnamese heritage, shocked fans by beating Daniil Medvedev at the 2025 Australian Open to reach the fourth round. He has also defeated other top 10 players like world No. 2 Alexander Zverev, Ben Shelton, and No. 10 Andrey Rublev.

With a strong left-handed style, experience on hard courts, and youthful vigor, Learner Tien promises to be an interesting challenge for Djokovic, who is pursuing his 25th Grand Slam title. Notably, while Learner Tien warmed up for the US Open at tournaments in Washington (ATP 500), Toronto, and Cincinnati (Masters 1000), Djokovic has not participated in any events since his loss to Sinner at Wimbledon 2025.
