Southeast Asian football fans shower praise after Vietnam’s win over Thailand

Numerous Southeast Asian football fans expressed their congratulations and admiration after the Vietnamese women’s team triumphed over Thailand in the battle for third place at the 2025 AFF Women’s Cup.

The match kicked off with high intensity from the very beginning. In the 45th minute, Vietnam’s women’s team broke the deadlock thanks to a composed finish by Hai Yen. After receiving a pass from a teammate, the striker skillfully controlled the ball before firing a precise shot, putting the Red Shirts up 1-0.

The second half saw the game become even more exciting. In the 65th minute, Huynh Nhu capitalized on a defensive mistake by Thailand to double the lead, needing two attempts to finally beat the opposing goalkeeper. Just three minutes later, Bich Thuy made her mark with a stunning volley from a long pass by Thai Thi Thao, extending Vietnam’s lead to 3-0.

Although Thailand pushed hard for a comeback and managed to score in the 87th minute through Wirunya, it wasn’t enough to prevent Vietnam from securing a 3-1 victory and finishing the tournament with the bronze medal.

On various regional football forums, Southeast Asian supporters lavished praise on coach Mai Duc Chung and his players. An Indonesian fan commented: “Against a long-time rival like Thailand, Vietnam maintained their composure and resilience. This was a truly deserved victory.”.

Another supporter remarked that the Vietnamese women’s team had solidified their position: “It’s not just about technique—the spirit of the Vietnamese team is truly admirable. They always show great strength in crucial matches.”.

Meanwhile, many Thai fans expressed disappointment with their team’s performance: “We had our chances but failed to take them. Thailand needs to do much more to catch up with Vietnam.”.
