Coach Xabi Alonso criticizes Barca's match in the US

Coach Xabi Alonso spoke out against organizing a La Liga match in the US, emphasizing that altering regulations without agreement cannot be accepted.

Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso expressed his support for colleague Jagoba Arrasate regarding the referee controversy following the Barcelona vs. Mallorca match last weekend.

In this game, Barcelona controversially defeated Mallorca 3-0, leading coach Arrasate to express his frustration and claim the incident "drives you crazy."

Specifically, in the first half, Mallorca defender Antonio Raillo headed the ball to block Lamine Yamal's shot and fell to the ground. However, the referee did not stop the match, even though the situation posed a risk of head injury. While several Mallorca players appeared to halt play, Ferran Torres from Barcelona continued and scored in the top corner.

Responding to questions about the incident before the match against Osasuna, coach Alonso said: "I am not in a position to comment on what happens in other games, but I heard what Arrasate said and he explained everything very clearly." Alonso also stressed that the referee's decision in this match sets an unacceptable precedent in football.

Additionally, Alonso was asked about the prospect of staging the first La Liga match in the US, with a proposed game between Villarreal and Barcelona in Miami this December. Alonso fully supported Real Madrid's statement on the matter, insisting that changing regulations without the consent of all parties involved is unacceptable. Alonso stated: "If the rules are to be changed, everyone participating must agree. But right now, that's not the case."

Meanwhile, coach Jagoba Arrasate expressed his dissatisfaction with the referee's decision after Mallorca's 0-3 loss to Barcelona. He said the situation made him "lose his mind" and that he could not trust the officiating. "We all saw it clearly. Last week, they explained to us that if there was a blow to the head, the match should be stopped, and the fourth official asked for a stoppage because it was a head injury. Yet, the referee did not blow the whistle, and I simply can't understand it."

He further mentioned that Mallorca had complained about the lack of consistency in refereeing decisions: "We have complained about the criteria, which I find inconsistent. That makes you annoyed, frustrated, and drives you crazy."
