Jose Mourinho predicts that Amorim will succeed in managing Manchester United! The players in the dressing room welcomed the new manager and embraced the new tactics

Manchester United have appointed Ruben Amorim as Ten Hag's replacement and will become the second Portuguese coach to take charge of the Red Devils since Jose Mourinho, taking charge from next Monday. The British newspaper The Times reported that as a mentor, Mourinho is privately optimistic that the 39-year-old will complete his failed goals in the past and lead Manchester United's revival.

Amorim won two league titles during his tenure as head coach of Sporting de Portugal, including the Portuguese Super League trophy for the first time in 19. Now he hopes to repeat that at Old Trafford, where United last won the title in 2013, more than 11 years ago.

Jose Mourinho, who took charge of Manchester United in 2016, was ultimately unsuccessful, but at least his first season was a success, winning the Community Shield, League Cup and Europa League, and finishing runners-up in the Premier League and FA Cup in his second season. However, in the third year, the madman fell out with Ed Woodward because of the reinforcement and finally left the class.

In 2018, the young Amorim went to Old Trafford for an internship in order to obtain a UEFA professional coaching certificate. Later, he studied at the University of Lisbon, where Mourinho was his lecturer. Uncle Bird praised Amorim this summer, believing he could manage any Premier League side when the 39-year-old Portuguese boss was in talks with West Ham United.

Now, according to The Times, the boss believes Amorim will be successful at Manchester United. The Fenerbahce boss has privately predicted that his protégé will be a real success at the Theatre of Dreams, and despite losing his position at United six years ago, he remains eyeing the Red Devils in the hope that his old club can return to its former glory.

Jose Mourinho and Amorim have not faced each other in official matches, although in a pre-season match in 2022, Sporting beat Roma 3-2 at home. Pedro Gonçalves scored first, but Gonzalo Inácio's own goal allowed Roma to equalise. Inácio made up for it with a goal for Roma and Portugal to take a 2-1 lead. However, Roma's Lorenzo Pellegrini levelled the score to a 2-2 draw. In the end, Bruno Tabata scored the winning goal and allowed his apprentice Amorim to beat his master Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho has been following Amorim's development as a coach since then, appreciating what he's seen and believing United may have made the right choice. And Amorim, out of respect for Mourinho, never recognized himself as the so-called "new Mourinho".

Interestingly, in the 2021/22 season, Amorim's Sporting were thrashed 9-3 by Ten Hag's Ajax over two legs in the Champions League group stage, but still made it to the knockout rounds. At the time, a reporter asked about the rumours of Amorim about taking charge of Manchester United. "Me? I think they should ask Ten Hag!" Amorim replied at the time. Next, United did bring in Ten Hag as a manager, but now it's Amorim's turn.

In addition, the players in United's dressing room are excited about the prospect of working under Amorim, and while he could potentially bring a back three to the team, a tactic they rarely play, the players are willing to try it.

Amorim will definitely have an advantage over Mourinho in charge of Manchester United, and that is that he will not be targeted by the referee! In this weekend's Turkish Super League, Fenerbahce, coached by Uncle Bird, was once again "black-whistled", especially when the referee ignored the opponent's obvious handball in the penalty area. After the game, the madman cursed VAR for eight minutes.
