FC Copenhagen and Danish football fans were greatly moved by the determination shown by Giorgi Gocholeishvili, who demonstrated remarkable resilience on the field during spring, despite his family facing a challenging time with their son battling for his life in the hospital after being diagnosed with leukemia.
"We are doing everything possible to support a man and a family enduring some very tough times. We strive to assist them," said FC Copenhagen Jacob Neestrup, who referred to the right-back as a "fantastic player".
Sandro Gocholeishvili was able to recover and was released from the hospital at the end of April. Following this, Gocholeishvili shared a touching message on Instagram:
"Sandro has recovered! We have endured some incredibly tough days, but that is now behind us. I sincerely thank everyone who stood by us during this period. Your words, your care, and your support have given me strength when I needed it most. It meant a great deal and has made this challenging journey a bit easier."
As reported by Bild, HSV is nearing the completion of a loan agreement for Gocholeishvili, including an option to purchase next summer.
The 24-year-old reportedly traveled to Hamburg on Wednesday, where he underwent a medical examination alongside Rennes defender Warmed Omari. Both players are anticipated to proceed to Mallorca, where HSV is currently holding a pre-season training camp.
Gocholeishvili made 33 appearances for FC Copenhagen last season, helping the team achieve the domestic league and cup double.
