According to reports, after Newcastle United improved their personal terms offer, Benjamin Šeško is now likely to favor a transfer to the "Magpies" over joining Manchester United, who lack European competition qualifications. Slovenian outlet "Delo" reports that the 22-year-old Šeško has agreed to the contract offered by Newcastle.
Manchester United's recruitment efforts are overseen by director of recruitment Christopher Vivell, who previously worked with Šeško at Red Bull Salzburg and believes this young striker has the potential to become one of the best forwards in the world. Although Šeško is not the first choice for head coach Ruben Amorim, he has agreed to prioritize Šeško as a target after Aston Villa refused to sell Watkins.
Initially, Manchester United was seen as the frontrunner to sign Šeško; however, Newcastle subsequently raised their offer significantly, ultimately receiving the green light from the player's agent, and will now negotiate with RB Leipzig. It is widely believed that as long as Šeško agrees, the transfer fee at the club level will not pose a significant issue. Newcastle is expected to pay Leipzig around £60 million to £70 million as a fixed transfer fee, plus additional clauses.
According to rumors from Slovenia, former Liverpool manager Klopp, who is currently with Red Bull, has spoken with Šeško, advising him against choosing Manchester United, described as a "black hole." However, there are no more concrete sources to confirm this claim, suggesting it might just be a "story."
Renowned Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano and David Ornstein from "The Athletic" have not provided updates on Šeško's transfer progress; Manchester United still has a chance, as whether Šeško joins Newcastle also depends on the outcome regarding Isak's future.
On Friday, Liverpool made a £110 million bid, which was firmly rejected by Newcastle. Reportedly, the latter was confused by Liverpool's offer being £10 million lower than what was previously discussed, with their asking price set at £150 million. Newcastle believes Liverpool is deliberately stalling, trying to pressure them into lowering their price as the transfer window progresses.
Liverpool has threatened to end negotiations, stating that spending £150 million on Isak is unrealistic. It is certain that negotiating a transfer with the Magpies is not easy; Romano disclosed that some players are hesitant to join Newcastle because the team is reluctant to sell their own players easily.
Isak himself is believed to be seeking a transfer and has been training alone at his former club Real Sociedad's facilities. He withdrew from Newcastle's pre-season tour due to a thigh issue. Newcastle has made it clear that they will not agree to sell unless a suitable replacement is found, and Šeško has long been one of Eddie Howe's most wanted players.
If Šeško indeed chooses Newcastle, Manchester United will have to explore alternative options once again. The British "Daily Mail" reports that Manchester United has inquired about Brentford's Wissa and Wolves' Yorgen Strand-Larsen, both of whom are former teammates of summer signings Mbeumo and Cunha.
The report states that Manchester United recently also approached Isak but was quickly rejected. Florian Plettenberg from Sky Germany claims that Isak has made it clear he has no intention of joining the Red Devils; his heart belongs to their fierce rivals at Anfield, and personal terms with Liverpool have already been 100% agreed upon, with a contract set until 2031, pending club-level negotiations.
