According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United's next signing will be between Aston Villa's Watkins and RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko. The report states that 29-year-old Watkins is the preferred option due to his lower cost and extensive Premier League experience, but Sesko is also under consideration. Both players are willing to join the Red Devils, despite the team's lack of European competition.
The 22-year-old Sesko is believed to prefer a move to Manchester United rather than Newcastle United. Despite Newcastle's greater financial flexibility and being considered in a stronger position, Sesko and his agent team recently held talks with the Red Devils, and it is believed he is eager to transfer to the Theatre of Dreams.
Over the past two transfer windows, Sesko has been closely linked with a move to the Premier League. Before Arsenal signed Havertz, the Slovenian international was also a consideration for Arteta. He joined RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023, making 87 appearances and scoring 39 goals.
Last year, although Sesko signed a new contract with the club valid until June 2029, both parties reached a "gentleman's agreement" allowing him to transfer to certain clubs for around €80 million (£70 million), which includes Manchester United. Another report suggests a lower price of €70 million (£60 million). It is important to emphasize that Leipzig has no immediate pressure to sell players.
Florian Plettenberg from Sky Germany stated that Manchester United has submitted a financial proposal to Sesko's agent and outlined the club's long-term revival plan. It is said that Sesko is impressed by Manchester United's offer and is very attracted to the club's income level and the vision of playing in a planned new stadium with a capacity of 100,000.
According to Sir Jim Ratcliffe's plan, Manchester United will open the "New Old Trafford" in 2030, at which point Sesko will be only 27 years old, in his prime. Although he does not have a "childhood dream" of playing for the club, helping the Red Devils revive at the new stadium would certainly place him in the history of European football.
Manchester United has been closely monitoring Sesko since he played for Red Bull Salzburg, and the player is quite pleased with the attention from England's top club. His agent, Elvis Basanovic, has maintained dialogue with the Red Devils and has visited Manchester United's Carrington training base and Old Trafford multiple times since last summer.
However, Newcastle is preparing to make a formal offer, not just talk. Reports suggest that Newcastle's initial bid is set to reach €72 million to €74 million. Once they sell Isak, the "Magpies" will have sufficient funds to buy two Sesko players, whereas Manchester United must sell several players, including Garnacho, Antony, Sancho, and Malacia.
According to the Daily Telegraph, even if Chelsea signs Harvey Simons from Leipzig, they may still pursue Manchester United's Garnacho. It is reported that Enzo Maresca hopes Garnacho will compete with Gittens on the left flank. If the Blues sell Nkunku, they will have a better chance to consider buying Garnacho.
Italian outlet Roma Sport claims that although French forward Muani prefers a permanent move to Juventus, Manchester United can still compete for him due to his lower price. Paris Saint-Germain is willing to loan him out for another season, as long as the new club commits to a mandatory buyout obligation.
It is said that PSG would gladly accept a loan fee of £9 million (€10 million), plus a buyout clause of €40 million. Juventus's offer currently has a €5 million difference compared to what the Ligue 1 champions demand.
Manchester United knows that such prices are considered cheap among striker candidates. According to "L'Equipe," they believe signing Watkins from Aston Villa would cost at least £40 million to £45 million, while Sesko may be around £70 million.
