Vasco da Gama's goalkeeper Leo Jardim received a late red card for time-wasting against Internacional, which proved costly as his team conceded a goal in stoppage time, resulting in a 1-1 draw in Brazil's Serie A.
Jardim, who had been booked earlier in the second half for delaying the game, remained in front of the goal after the ball went out for a goal kick and was shown a second yellow card, despite his gestures towards his stomach, possibly indicating an injury.
Referee Flavio Rodrigues de Souza was unyielding as the visiting Vasco players protested. Vasco faced punishment when Internacional scored, missing out on a victory due to a late equalizer for the second consecutive league match in Porto Alegre.
The draw on Sunday leaves Vasco in 16th place in the standings, just above the bottom four relegation zone spots on goal difference after winning four out of their 15 league matches so far.
