Bonmati overcame a meningitis scare prior to the tournament and played a vital role in Spain's journey to the final.
However, on Sunday, Spain found it difficult to break through the England defense, and Bonmati missed her penalty in the shootout as she suffered another heartbreaking defeat following her club Barcelona's Champions League final loss to Arsenal in May.
"It's challenging to see you right now," she told reporters. "Two months ago, I found myself in a similar situation with the club. You have to appreciate more when things are going well; we performed better on the field, just not in penalties," she stated.
The 27-year-old expressed regret to the Spanish public for failing to secure a victory against an England team that, although lacking in skill, showed remarkable resilience.
"I accept my share of the responsibility; I play for the team and for many others. There's little point in playing a better game and missing penalties," she remarked.
"For me, England is a team that can win even when not playing well. Some teams don’t need much to achieve victory."
England seized the opportunity presented to them, and although Spain found themselves on the losing end, Bonmati remained philosophical.
"We haven't lost a match (in 90 minutes); we have received support, and I feel bad about that as well. We have achieved victories off the pitch, and that holds value too," she explained, before vowing to return stronger.
"We are a trained team; we have already demonstrated that we know how to overcome challenges. We hope to approach (Euro) 2029 at full strength and try again."
