Sarina Wiegman celebrated in her native Dutch when England secured a place in the EURO 2025 final. She tried to high-five her assistant Darren Ward but missed. She mentioned that she intended to reward herself with a "glass of something nice."

If England’s women’s coach was initially reserved when appointed in 2021, she stated that she has grown into the role, and her enthusiasm has been evident at the Euros, especially during two thrilling knockout matches where the Lionesses faced elimination.

"First of all, my English has improved, so I understand much more, but also I learn more about the people I work with," she commented on Friday. "You learn more about yourself too, and while I am consistently focused on developing the team, I always strive to improve myself.

"What I genuinely wanted to achieve over the years is to enjoy it a bit more; you have to stay focused in this job, but it’s essential to celebrate the good moments, it’s truly wonderful."

As England prepares to compete in their third consecutive major final on Sunday against the world champions Spain in the Euro 2025 finale, Wiegman's players have described her as a second mother -- straightforward and demanding yet caring and supportive.

Ella Toone mentioned that the coach has been compassionate during the midfielder's first significant tournament following her father's passing. Aggie Beever-Jones recounted that after England's defeat to France in their Euro opener, Wiegman comforted her and explained her reasons for not including her in the match.

Midfielder Keira Walsh referred to her as "one of the best managers I’ve played for in terms of making everyone feel valued."

"It’s an incredibly challenging role during a tournament, and naturally, players want to participate, but she truly cares about the human aspect," Walsh remarked.

"Another thing you notice when playing for her is her calm demeanor. It makes a huge difference in the 95th minute when you’re down 1-0, and you glance over to the sideline and see her remaining composed."

Wiegman stated that balancing the job can be difficult.

"I’m a caring person, so perhaps that’s the aspect; I care about them, but at the same time, I’m the coach, making tough decisions in the moment," she added.

On Sunday, Wiegman will become the first individual, in either men’s or women’s football, to coach teams in five consecutive major tournament finals. The 55-year-old, who has a contract until the 2027 World Cup, led her home nation Netherlands to two finals before continuing that streak with Euro 2022 champions England.

Football Association executive Mark Bullingham stated they will not allow Wiegman to leave for any sum, and Wiegman certainly doesn’t seem like she plans to go anywhere.

"I apologize, I’m still learning English, but yes, I have (fallen in love) with England," Wiegman expressed. "Otherwise, I wouldn’t be sitting here with such a smile on my face.

"This team has consistently demonstrated immense resilience; I see that in abundance, and I perceive it entirely through the lens of the Lionesses. They are undoubtedly the most resilient individuals. They are incredibly dedicated and committed."
