This represents the latest development in an ongoing conflict between Brys and the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) since his appointment by the country's sports ministry in April 2024.
A letter dated July 21, allegedly from Brys to the sports ministry and FECAFOOT, indicated he had decided to terminate his contract "due to the non-payment of my salary and that of my staff for over 60 days."
When the letter became public on Wednesday, FECAFOOT stated that they acknowledged the resignation and would "implement a coordinated response to minimize the impact of this vacancy at the head of the national team's technical staff."
However, Brys later communicated in a letter to the sports ministry that his email had likely been hacked and that he had not resigned.
Cameroon's sports ministry confirmed that Brys remained in his position. FECAFOOT has not replied to the coach's denial.
This situation arises five months before the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Morocco, with Cameroon's qualification for the 2026 World Cup still uncertain.
Brys has had a strained relationship with FECAFOOT president Samuel Eto'o since assuming the role last year, but his position is financed by the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education.
Cameroon has been placed in a group with defending champions Ivory Coast, Gabon, and Mozambique for the AFCON finals scheduled from December 21 to January 18.
They currently sit second in their qualifying group for next year's World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, trailing Cape Verde by one point with four matches left.
Only the top team automatically secures a spot in the finals, with Cameroon facing a crucial away match against Cape Verde in September.
The qualification campaign will conclude in October.
