De Telegraaf reported on Sunday that Ajax and Red Bull Salzburg have agreed on a transfer fee of €15 million for the Israeli international, which could increase to €18 million with various bonuses.
However, De Telegraaf journalists Mike Verweij and Jeroen Kapteijns reported on Monday that Serie A giants AS Roma are looking to take over the deal and have expressed their interest in Gloukh as well. The Giallarossi are reportedly preparing a bid, which has prompted Ajax to accelerate their efforts to secure Gloukh.
The 21-year-old Gloukh, who is believed to have reached a full agreement with Ajax for a five-year contract, is viewed as Ajax's standout signing for this transfer window. The Amsterdam club previously secured Liverpool goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros on loan and Real Valladolid'sRaul Moro for €9.5 million earlier in the window, and they aim to finalize their desired creative midfielder in Gloukh.
However, Algemeen Dagblad journalist Johan Inan reported on Sunday that sources from within Ajax indicate that no agreement has been reached yet. "A deal is under negotiation and they remain optimistic, but all claims suggesting it has already been finalized have been dismissed as nonsense," Inan stated during the AD Voetbalpodcast.
In his last two seasons with Red Bull Salzburg, the rising star Gloukh scored 17 goals and provided 17 assists in 55 Bundesliga matches. The attacking midfielder also contributed three assists in last season's Champions League and netted one goal in the recent FIFA Club World Cup.
