Brentford winger Bbemo has been embroiled in a transfer battle between Manchester United and Tottenham, with the 25-year-old Cameroon international refusing to clarify his whereabouts head-on. When asked about his future while watching Formula 1 cars, his response was "you guess", accepting the speculation surrounding his future.
After Manchester United reached a verbal agreement with Mbeumo himself, Tottenham hired Brentford boss Thomas Frank as head coach and held initial discussions about a transfer deal for Mbeumo, who is still believed to be the preferred choice for the Red Devils, but has also become more interested in joining the 'White Lily'.
Brentford are more than happy to see this and they will be able to sell Mbemo for a higher price. Manchester United have made an offer of £45 million for a fixed transfer fee and a £10 million floating clause, the only offer at the moment, which has been rejected by the 'Little Bees'.
Tottenham are rumoured to be willing to make a £70million offer, but this is only rumours and has not yet been officially communicated. Sky Sports reports that Brentford have told Manchester United that an offer of £60 million or more would be enough to be accepted, plus some floating clauses.
This would take Mbeumo's price to a similar level to Cunha's, which the Bees think makes sense, considering the fact that Mbeumo has scored more goals than Cunha and is a little younger.
British media said that Red Devils chief executive Omar Berada wants to no longer pay the "Manchester United tax", but Brentford scoffed at it because Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS have just paid the full amount of liquidated damages for Cunha. Moreover, Manchester United's Mbeumo "Plan B" is rumored to be Crystal Palace's Eze or Bournemouth's Semen contract, one of them has a liquidated damages of 68 million pounds and the other is 70 million pounds, which are more expensive than Mbeumo!
Last season, Mbeumo scored 20 goals and provided eight assists in the Premier League, with his goal helping Brentford to 22 points. Statistically, he ranks fourth in the scorers list with 20 goals, first in expected assists with 9.26, first with 202 crosses, and third with 387.6km and 870 sprints.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Mbemo said: "I would say that transfer rumours are a bit new to me! I think that's the life of a player and you need to accept it. It was my best season in the Premier League so far. Overall, we did a great job as a team. I didn't qualify for Europe in the end, but I think it's been a fantastic season."
At the same time, Mbeumo also thanked Tottenham's new boss Frank and wished his mentor success at his new club. "He gave me a lot and trusted me very much from the beginning. I think he's led the team to great progress. He not only developed my football skills, but also my personality. So I have to wish him all the best and I'm sure he'll do well."
Mbemo, who has been working with Frank for six years, added: "I think he's do-it-all, he's very smart and knows exactly where he wants to lead the team and how he plays. He's been very successful at Brentford and it's obviously going to take some time to get used to it, as you said, Champions League games, higher expectations, but I'm sure he's going to do well. He knows how to communicate with people, and he knows how to form a team. That's why we're playing so well."
