The 22-year-old has turned down Manchester United in favour of Chelsea, with a medical clearance scheduled for next Monday and a £30million transfer. One of the reasons for the Ipswich striker's decision is said to have been due to the advice of England boss Thomas Tuchel.
After Ipswich's relegation, Delap's £30 million liquidated damages clause came into effect, so the transfer fee was not a problem for Manchester United, and they also agreed a personal deal with the player's agent, but in the end he opted to join Chelsea. Transfer expert Ben Jacobs says Drap made the choice because of Tuchel's involvement.
Thomas Tuchel was a former Chelsea boss who led the Blues to Champions League victory, and while he was given the opportunity to manage Manchester United, Sir Jim Ratcliffe chose to continue to trust Ten Hag. So, in Tuchel's mind, it's natural to lean towards the Blues. He allegedly told Delap in communication that playing in the Champions League next season would help him make it to his England squad and more likely to play in the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico. And as we all know, Manchester United will not qualify for Europe next season.
These words seem to have helped Delap make up his mind to reject clubs such as Manchester United, Everton and Nottingham Forest, as none of them qualified for the Champions League. Newcastle United can play in the Champions League, but they have Isak and Delap's chances of competing for the main team are lower than at Chelsea. England captain Harry Kane is certainly the centre-forward of choice in Tuchel's formation, with Delap needing to compete with the likes of Ivan Toney, Ollie Watkins and Dominic Solanke.
United fans have been unhappy with this and have taunted that Delap could be on the bench at Stamford Bridge as Enzo Maresca's side may continue to bring in strikers, and there are also rumours of a link with Sporting's Djekereish. In addition, the Blues' existing centre-forward Jacquesson will not throw in the towel, having scored 10 league goals this season, just two fewer than Delap.
However, regardless of Delap's chances in London, not being able to acquire him will spell problems for United's summer transfer window, as owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe will not be able to find another player of this value. A whole bunch of new strikers are starting to be linked with Manchester United again.
Some of these names are familiar, such as Crystal Palace's Mateta, Brentford's Visa, etc. But there are also new arrivals, such as Bundesliga Mainz's Jonathan Burkardt, the 24-year-old striker who has scored 18 goals this season and sent Mainz to European competition. The Germany international fits into the 343 formation and his liquidated damages are only 20 million euros.
If he wants to save money, Rajue could also return to the familiar Ligue 1 scene and sign French striker Chloe Muani on loan from Paris Saint-Germain. The 26-year-old was rumoured to join the Red Devils in the winter window, but chose Juventus, who scored eight goals and provided two assists in Italy. Juventus are said to have no intention of buying him out, and Paris boss Luis Enrique will not use him, with United seeing an opportunity to sign him on loan or bring him in at a bargain.
ACCORDING TO GIVEMESPORT, LA JUE THINKS £35 MILLION CAN BUY MUANI, BUT IT MAY BE SAFER TO BUY IT FIRST, AND MANCHESTER UNITED BELIEVES THE FRENCH INTERNATIONAL HAS TALENT AND MAY BE WORTH A TRY IF HE CAN GET IT ON LOAN.
United are also said to want to buy another No.10 on the right, with Brentford's Brian Mbeumo and Brighton's Yankuba Minteh also under consideration. The 20-year-old left-footed right winger scored one goal and provided one assist at Old Trafford in a 3-1 win over the Red Devils in January. But Minter certainly doesn't come cheap, as the 'Seagulls' spent £30 million to sign him from Newcastle United.
