According to Fabrizio Romano, Bayer Leverkusen's 23-year-old Ivory Coast defender Kosonu is set to join Atalanta in a deal that is nearing completion with a loan + optional buyout. Atalanta will first spend €5 million on a season loan at Kosonou, with an option of €25 million next summer window, for a total fee of more than €30 million.

Kosonou joined Bayer Leverkusen from Club Brugge for a transfer fee of €23 million in the summer window of 2021 and won the Bundesliga + Germany Cup with the team last season, finishing runners-up in the Europa League and missing out on the treble.

The 23-year-old Kosonu, 1.91 meters tall, is a right-footed player, mainly playing as a central defender, but can also play at right-back, and has a two-year contract with Bayer Leverkusen, until June 2026, with a turnover of 35 million euros and an annual salary of 1.63 million euros before tax. Kosonou made 34 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen in all competitions last season, 27 of them starts, playing a total of 2,295 minutes and scoring one goal.
