Manchester United right-back Mazraoui has confirmed that he will not be involved in Sunday's Premier League trip to Brentford, so Academy youngster Jaydan Kamason is expected to make his senior debut as the only authentic right-back replacement in the squad.
Mazraoui has played in all 34 of United's Premier League games but Amorim announced he would be rested after Thursday's Europa League clash with Athletic Bilbao. Morocco were substituted early in the last round of the Premier League, and although it did not affect the Europa League later, the Red Devils did not want to take any chances.
Another Manchester United right-back, Diogu Darlow, has been reimbursed early for the season due to a calf strain. As a result, the only first-team player United can use to play at right wing-back is Patrick Dolgu. Dolgu is also likely to be rotated against Brentford, so Carmarthen has a chance to play, or at least likely to come off the bench.
The British media expect Manchester United to start the likes of Evans, De Ligt, Luke Shaw, Kobe Mayno and Mason Mount, while youngsters Harry Armas, Tyler Fredericksen and Cheedo Obi are also likely to start. "It's tough at this moment." Reflecting on the relationship between the Premier League and the Europa League, Amorim said: "It's hard to separate, we know Manchester United always have a responsibility, but at this moment we have to take a risk.
Amorim added: "There are some positions where we don't have more players, such as Mazraoui who can't play or he could get injured. We'll take care of that and get ready for the next game, against a team that's looking to get a good result. We always have responsibilities that need to be fulfilled and we are responsible for the results. But at this point, we have to be clear that the focus is now on keeping the main players fit and competitive. It's not a good thing, but we need to understand the context. First of all, players who are at risk of injury will not play anyway. We need to take risks with young players and assess who is the best player to start tomorrow and the day after tomorrow."
Amad Diallo, who has returned from injury, has returned to the Europa League and could start against the 'Little Bees'. Amorim said: "He was the player who created all the situations before the injury, and Bruno [Fernandez]. So when he was injured, we struggled and Ahmad himself was hit hard, injured at his peak, but he's back now. You can feel that he's not that explosive at the moment. But he's a player with a unique left foot, and unlike Garnacho, he likes one-on-one. We don't have a lot of players who can do that, so it's important and he's another option for us.'
If United fail to beat Brentford this round, they will be in the bottom half of the Premier League, currently 14th, having lost the most 15 Premier League games in their history, with a goal difference of -8. United were 14th at the time of Ten Hag's dismissal, and Amorim's failure to change the team's record in the league is sure to produce their worst league result since relegation last century.
Amorim insists United still have to fight for dignity. 'We have to be careful because we are Manchester United and we can't give up on winning in the game. So it's going to be tough, but we've been through so much this year, and how it will go this time, let's see." 'We have to show how important Manchester United is every game, every position in the Premier League you win more money, it's important. And you're going to fight for dignity."
Premier League teams can receive an additional £3 million for each move up the table. Realistically, Manchester United could move up to 12th in the Premier League this season, picking up £6 million more. But this is nothing compared to winning the Europa League and entering the Champions League.
Despite a 3-0 win away to Bilbao in the first leg, United have not been without a 3-0 defeat at home this season, with Amorim having won at Old Trafford since Bournemouth took over, so the Portuguese boss will have to be cautious. 'We don't have anything to fight for in the Premier League and the second leg of the Europa League semi-final is crucial for us and we know that,' said Amorim.
