According to Sky Sports, Portuguese sporting striker Djekereish has promised Ruben Amorim in the past that he will join Manchester United, but now the Swedish centre-forward has changed his mind and is ready to join other teams and has already entered into talks with Arsenal. This is a second blow to Amorim, whose favourite Giovanni Kunda recently rejected him in favour of joining Chelsea.
David Ornstein, an authoritative transfer expert at The Athletic, has confirmed that Djekereish is at the top of Arsenal's shortlist for the summer window to bring in a centre-forward, and he is considered to be more accessible than Newcastle United's Isak, with the Magpies having the backing of Saudi Arabia and not lacking money.
On the contrary, Jekereish has a gentleman's agreement with Sport de Portugal for a transfer of 70 million euros this summer. Arsenal's new sporting director, Andre Berta, is a staunch admirer of Djekereish, so the Gunners are now in talks with the player's agent.
Sky Sports' Sasha Tavorieri says this is due to United's poor form under Amorim and that while the team still has a chance to win the Europa League and qualify for the Champions League, they may also miss out on European competition. Not only that, but Sir Jim Ratcliffe's controversial management, complicated internal club circumstances, threatened to undermine the verbal commitment between Dzhekelish and Amorim.
The Swedish striker believes that the future of United's revival plans is uncertain, and that he is almost 27 years old and has little time to waste, and he wants to join a strong team that has the ability to compete for the title immediately. The Red Devils' ambition is to win the Premier League title in 2028 on their 150th anniversary, a plan that is considered elusive. Of course, Arsenal are no better, they have not won as many trophies as the Red Devils in recent years, but Mikel Arteta's side do have the ability to compete for the league title and they could win two consecutive Premier League titles this year.
Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed that Arsenal are interested in Djekereish, and although Arteta prefers Isak, Newcastle's tough stay is not easy to deal with, so Djekereish is a more realistic option.
As for the story of Manchester United and the goalscorer, Romano explained: "There are a lot of stories and rumours about Manchester United. Of course, they admired Zhekereish. Amorim is clearly a big supporter of the player, but that's not guaranteed at the moment. United haven't reached any agreement on Dzhekereish at the moment and he is certainly one of the names on the list, but we'll have to see when United approve the budget to see how much they can afford to spend on the striker. So the situation is that they appreciate Djekereish, but it's not just Manchester United who are interested."
There are many more names on the shortlist for Manchester United's new striker arrivals, such as Ipswich's Liam Dragp, Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike, RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko and Napoli's Osimhen on loan at Galatasaray.
Among them, Ipswich Town president Mark Ashton admitted that they may eventually have to sell Drap Jr., who has scored 10 goals in the Premier League. He said: "What I can say is that in January this year, a number of Premier League clubs expressed interest in a number of our players. But the owner of the club said, 'You don't have to sell them.'" But it's clear that there will always be a point in time for players to leave. It's the cycle of life and the cycle of football."
For Manchester United, Premier League strikers such as Delop and Mateta may not need European qualification to bring in, but the more famous goalscorers are likely to value Champions League qualification unless they are a special player like Osimhen who wants to join if they have the money.
