Manchester United's eight-dynasty veteran hinted at going home, playing for the Red Devils is very comfortable to stay until the contract expires! One person or successor

Manchester United centre-back Victor Lindelof has expressed his love for Benfica and has been rumoured to be returning to the Stadium of Light in Lisbon. The Swedish Iceman's contract expires at the end of the season and he is unlikely to be renewed to bid farewell to Old Trafford in June, at which point the Swedish captain has the option to return to his club as a free agent.

In 2017, Lindelof transferred from Benfica to Mourinho's Manchester United for £30 million, and since then he has experienced eight managers, including Mourinho, and is already the "veteran of eight dynasties" second only to Luke Shaw in the team.

But so far this season, the 30-year-old has made just 14 appearances, just six of which have been starts. However, Ruben Amorim recently suffered a series of injuries at centre-back and had to start Victor Lindelof against Arsenal and Leicester City for the first time in almost a year.

His contract is in its final months, with United activating a one-year extension clause last year and hoping to sell him in the summer window, with Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce rumoured to be with him. However, in the warm-up for Liverpool, Seten Hag arranged for the Swedish centre-back to return, only to be injured again and the deal fell through the cracks. Now, the club can only wait for Lindelof's contract to expire and end the partnership.

Lindelof is said to have often returned to Portugal with his family, having moved to Lisbon since he was a child to join Benfica and felt it was time to return to his second home.

Speaking about the possibility of returning to Benfica this summer, Lindelof said: "Benfica means a lot to me and it's the club that makes me who I am today. I didn't know what was going to happen, and I didn't know what decision I was going to make. But it's a club that has had a big impact on me and it's a club that I love. I don't just think about myself, it's a decision we have to make together as a family."

Reflecting on his eight years at Manchester United, Victor Lindelof said he was comfortable in Manchester. "I feel very comfortable at Manchester United. I was there for a long time and the Premier League is the best league in the world. I have to talk to everyone involved about the future."

However, Lindelof admits injuries at United have been tough, with four injuries and 37 games missed so far in December 2023. "It's very difficult," he explains, "I'm used to playing a lot of matches and it's tough not to be able to play in a row. It's not fun to do all the rehab treatments that take a mental toll on you."

Victor Lindelof's £120,000-a-week salary at Manchester United is considered a major obstacle to transfer. But if he is on a free transfer, then it can be compensated for by signing fees and so on. With Victor Lindelof departing and the prospect of 37-year-old Evans retiring, Amorim will have to find a new centre-back, leaving only four first-team centre-backs from De Ligt, Lenny Yoro, Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez, as well as 18-year-old Eden Haven, who joined in the winter window in January.

Yoro and Haven are both young, Maguire is 32 years old and Lima is injury-prone, so Amorim, who plays 343, wants to buy another centre-back in case he needs it. Everton's England defender Jarrad Branswaite has recently been on the rumoured shortlist again as a suited left-footed centre-back. Last year, the Red Devils made two offers, up to a fixed amount of £45 million plus a £5 million add-on, which was rejected by the "Toffees", who asked between £70 million and £80 million, which United refused to meet.

Manchester United chose to sign Ronaldo for £58.9 million and De Ligt for £41.6 million, spending more than £100 million in total. However, the team's defence is still short of personnel, and according to Sky Sports England, Branthwaite will reconsider his future at the end of the season. Having been omitted from Thomas Tuchel's first England squad, the 22-year-old Everton centre-back considered a move to a more influential side. However, Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham and even Real Madrid have also been rumored with Branswaite.

Branthwaite has a contract with Everton until 2027, with an option to extend for another year, and Moyes has not agreed to sell him and wants the club to renew him. This means that if Manchester United seek to bring in again, they may face another transfer soap opera.
