Just promoted to the first team, MU's 'new Messi' keeps scoring and assisting

Only a few hours after making the Manchester United first-team list, teenage prodigy JJ Gabriel once again made headlines with a standout display in the U21 category.

JJ Gabriel was named by head coach Michael Carrick in Manchester United's matchday squad for the 5-0 victory over Rosenborg in Norway. The 15-year-old wonderkid wore the number 77 shirt but did not get any playing time.

However, Gabriel did not have to wait long to showcase his abilities. Just hours after the first-team match, the 2010-born player took the field in a closed friendly between Manchester United U21 and Burnley U21.

JJ Gabriel was included in the Manchester United first-team squad for the match against Rosenborg in Norway.

Notably, Gabriel had to compete against players who could be up to five years older than him. Yet the age difference did not stop the young English talent from shining. In 45 minutes of play, Gabriel contributed a goal and an assist.

After the match, the 15-year-old shared images of his unofficial debut for the U21 team on his personal Instagram account. This is seen as a new step in the rapid development of one of the most promising gems in the MU academy.

JJ Gabriel is likened to the "Messi of Carrington" due to his skillful technique, ability to dribble in tight spaces, and instinct for scoring goals that far exceeds his age. Though only 15, the English talent has impressed with his confidence, speed of execution, and ability to create game-changing moments. That nickname reflects the enormous expectations MU has for this academy gem.

Gabriel has not yet made an official debut for the Red Devils' first team, but that milestone seems to be drawing closer every day. Previously, British media revealed that the player had been training with the senior squad. However, Gabriel did not feature in MU's first summer match against Wrexham.

Just a few hours later, Gabriel posted on Instagram the highlights of his performance in the U21 jersey.

Last season, the London-born talent played for Manchester United's U18 team and made a strong impression with a total of 26 goals in the FA Youth Cup and the U18 Premier League. That outstanding record has earned Gabriel a reputation as one of the most promising young players in English football today.

MU could have considered giving Gabriel a first-team opportunity last season, but he did not meet the age regulations. According to Premier League rules, a player must turn 15 by September of that season to be eligible to play.

Gabriel only turned 15 last October. With this barrier now removed, his explosive performances in the U21 team could help the number 77 wonderkid earn an official opportunity in the Manchester United first team soon.
