OFFICIAL: Great Vietnamese Club Wins Championship After 16-Year Wait

Thai Son Bac has officially claimed the title at the 2026 HDBank National Futsal Championship after a convincing victory over Tan Hiep Hung Ho Chi Minh City in the final round. The historic championship comes after a 16-year wait and with just a one-point lead over Thai Son Nam Ho Chi Minh City.

On the evening of July 25, the final round of the 2026 HDBank National Futsal Championship took place at the Chanh Hung Futsal Stadium (Ho Chi Minh City), featuring a thrilling sprint between Thai Son Bac and Thai Son Nam Ho Chi Minh City in two decisive matches for the crown. Before kickoff, the capital team led the standings with a single-point margin, while the defending champions still had a chance to retain their title if their rivals slipped up.

Without control over their own fate, Thai Son Nam Ho Chi Minh City had to complete their task against Sahako and then wait for good news from the following match. The most successful team in the tournament's history did everything they could, but the remaining developments would decide the season's outcome. This very round witnessed the moment Thai Son Bac ended their 16-year wait to ascend to the national championship throne.

In the early match, Thai Son Nam Ho Chi Minh City entered with great determination and opened the scoring in the 8th minute through Chau Doan Phat. However, just two minutes later, foreign player Moreira brought the game back to square one with an equalizer to make it 1-1 for Sahako. Before the end of the first half, foreign player Italo scored to help Thai Son Nam Ho Chi Minh City regain the lead at 2-1.

In the second half, Sahako continued to cause trouble by leveling the score at 2-2 early in the half. Nevertheless, the champions' composure spoke at the right time. Minh Man scored in the 25th minute, followed by Thinh Phat sealing a 4-2 victory in the 32nd minute. The full three points put immense pressure on Thai Son Bac, who were forced to beat Tan Hiep Hung Ho Chi Minh City to maintain their top position.

The pressure made Thai Son Bac's start far from easy. Despite being rated higher, the Hanoi representative could only take the lead in the first half thanks to a goal from Cong Dai and had to withstand dangerous counterattacks several times. The game truly changed after the break when foreign player Mota fired a powerful free kick from about 10 meters, doubling the lead to 2-0.

Trailing by two goals, Tan Hiep Hung Ho Chi Minh City switched to a power-play tactic in search of a comeback. However, this choice allowed Thai Son Bac to repeatedly score into an empty net. Cong Dai completed his brace, while Quang Vinh and Trong Kien also added their names to the scoresheet, sealing a dominant 6-0 win. This result gave Thai Son Bac the championship with 37 points after 14 matches, just one point ahead of Thai Son Nam Ho Chi Minh City. It was the second time the club claimed the title since their first in 2010, ending a 16-year-long wait, while Thai Son Nam Ho Chi Minh City had to settle for the runner-up position despite going through the entire season unbeaten.
