ASEAN Cup 2026: A Challenging Start

According to a TTXVN correspondent in the region, the Laos team enters the tournament with a young squad under the guidance of coach Vladica Grujic. The current squad has an average age of around 23-24 and is expected to gain experience through the competition. This call-up list includes many players playing abroad, notably midfielder Damoth Thongkhamsavath from Thanh Hoa Club (Vietnam), Phayak Siphanom from Chainat FC (Thailand), and Khonesavanh Keonouchanh who is studying and playing at the Rome City Institute Sports Academy (Italy).

The host's recent form has not been stable. In the last five matches, Laos won two against Nepal but lost to Vietnam and Malaysia. These two defeats also exposed defensive weaknesses as the team conceded 10 goals.
