Vietnam made a strong impression with a 7-0 victory in their opening match at the 2026 ASEAN Cup. Hoàng Hên, Đình Bắc, Xuân Son, and Quang Hải all found the net in this game.
The newspaper Sport detik of Indonesia ran a headline about the match: "Vietnam national team crushes Timor Leste 7-0." It also noted that two naturalized players, Xuân Son and Hoàng Hên, both scored in the recent encounter.

The newspaper CNN Indonesia published an article with the headline: "ASEAN Cup 2026 Results: Vietnam tops group after 7-0 win over Timor Leste." The Indonesian outlet acknowledged that coach Kim Sang Sik's side delivered an "explosive" performance to move to the top of Group A in the 2026 ASEAN Cup.
The site Liputan6 of Indonesia wrote: "The Vietnamese team had an impressive start in Group A of the 2026 AFF Cup. Facing Timor Leste at Chonburi Stadium on Friday evening (July 24, 2026), Vietnam secured a resounding 7-0 victory."
"Despite playing away, Vietnam led 5-0 at halftime. Naturalized players Đỗ Hoàng Hên (7th, 22nd minutes) and Nguyễn Đình Bắc (31st, 43rd minutes) each scored a brace, while Nguyễn Xuân Son added another goal in first-half stoppage time (45+1). In the second half, Nguyễn Đình Bắc completed his hat-trick in the 65th minute, before Nguyễn Quang Hải sealed the 7-0 win with a goal in the 79th minute," the Indonesian newspaper reported.
The newspaper Thairath Sport of Thailand wrote on Facebook: "Vietnam temporarily leads Group A with 3 points, level with Singapore but ahead on goal difference. Meanwhile, Cambodia and Timor Leste have no points yet. Indonesia has not played yet and thus has no points."
The site Real Ballthai wrote: "The Vietnamese team put on an impressive opening performance, displaying the true class of the defending champions by defeating Timor Leste 7-0 in Group A of the 2026 ASEAN Hyundai Cup. The match took place at Chonburi Stadium, where Vietnam completely dominated the opponent and recorded the biggest win of the opening round."
