Shin Tae-yong Breaks Silence After Facing Severe Penalties

Following reports in South Korean media about the harsh disciplinary measures from the Korea Football Association (KFA), Shin Tae-yong said there were many "unjust" elements but chose to stay quiet out of consideration for his students.

Coach Shin Tae-yong has become the focus of South Korean media after multiple sources indicated he could face very severe disciplinary action from the Korea Football Association (KFA). According to reports, the KFA's disciplinary committee held a meeting to consider various sanctions against the 55-year-old strategist related to his tenure at Ulsan HD.

According to South Korean media, the disciplinary measures being considered include suspension or revocation of KFA membership for a period of up to 10 years, a ban from participating in football activities under KFA jurisdiction, or even permanent removal from the organization.

Channel A sources revealed that Coach Shin Tae-yong is accused of being involved in several controversies during his stint at Ulsan HD, including conflicts with players, allegations of violent behavior toward his students, and playing golf while the team was playing away matches. Previously, in May 2026, he was also said to have received disciplinary action from the Korea Sports Ethics Center under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of South Korea. However, that penalty was only effective within South Korean territory.

In response to the wave of media reports, Shin Tae-yong has officially spoken out. The former coach of the Indonesian national team admitted that he feels there are many unfair elements and expressed a desire to reveal the full truth.

The South Korean strategist also mentioned that he is considering an appeal. According to Shin Tae-yong, if he speaks out at this time, his statements could affect his players and further complicate the situation in South Korean football.

Currently, coach Shin Tae-yong has just signed a three-year contract with Persija Jakarta and is focused on preparing for the new season as well as the 2026 Piala Presiden campaign.
