Southeast Asian fans simultaneously erupted when Vietnam landed in an easy group at the Asian Games.

U23 Vietnam is in Group C of the 2026 Asian Games alongside Uzbekistan, the Philippines, and Kuwait, leading many Southeast Asian fans to believe the team has a chance to advance far.

The draw results for the men's football event at the 2026 Asian Games have drawn much attention to U23 Vietnam. According to the results announced on July 23 in Japan, Coach Kim Sang Sik's team is in Group C along with Uzbekistan, the Philippines, and Kuwait. This is considered a relatively easy group, especially since U23 Vietnam avoided many strong opponents like Japan, South Korea, China, Saudi Arabia, Iran, or Qatar.

Right after the draw ceremony, many Southeast Asian fans left positive reactions about the chances of the Vietnamese representative. A Thai fan commented: "Vietnam is in a fairly favorable group. If they play to their potential, they can at least reach the quarterfinals."

Another account from Indonesia also praised U23 Vietnam's chances: "Uzbekistan is the strongest opponent in the group, but the Philippines and Kuwait are not too big a challenge. Vietnam can advance if they don't make mistakes themselves."

At the 2026 Asian Games,, the men's football event has 15 teams participating, divided into 4 groups. The teams play a round-robin format, and the top two teams of each group will advance to the quarterfinals. Therefore, U23 Vietnam needs to finish in the top two of Group C to get past the group stage.

Before the draw, U23 Vietnam was seeded in Pot 1 along with host Japan, China, and South Korea. This helped the team avoid very strong opponents right from the group stage. However, Group C still has Uzbekistan, a team with one of the top youth development foundations in Asia.

Alongside Uzbekistan, Kuwait is also an opponent that U23 Vietnam cannot underestimate. The West Asian representative can cause difficulties due to their physique, tackling ability, and powerful playing style. Meanwhile, the Philippines is rated lower but could still spring a surprise if U23 Vietnam is complacent.

The expectations for U23 Vietnam come not only from domestic fans. A Singapore fan commented: "In this group, Vietnam has a chance to win honor for Southeast Asia. Hope they can go deep and surprise the strong Asian teams."
