Mainoo brings extremely happy news to MU after the World Cup

Manchester United has received positive news regarding Kobbie Mainoo's condition, after the English midfielder unexpectedly suffered a back injury during the final days of the 2026 World Cup.

According to The Athletic's journalist Laurie Whitwell, the back injury sustained by Mainoo is predicted not to affect Manchester United's preparations for the new season. The 21-year-old midfielder will rest for about three weeks after completing his duties with the England national team and is expected to return during the "Red Devils' training camp in Dublin.

Mainoo encountered a problem during England's final training session before the World Cup third-place match against France. Coach Thomas Tuchel confirmed that the player felt a sharp pain in his back and was not fit to play.

The English Football Association later also announced that Mainoo was removed from the matchday squad. The Manchester United midfielder thus concluded the 2026 World Cup without a single minute of playing time, despite being named in the Three Lions' squad throughout the tournament.

However, Mainoo's condition is not considered serious. According to The Athletic, this is a common type of injury and is not expected to affect Manchester United's preparations for the new season.

The 21-year-old player will be given three weeks off after completing his duties with the England national team. This period is not a treatment timeframe for the injury, but rather a rest period for players who have just participated in the World Cup.

The break is also considered necessary for Mainoo to regain his mental balance. Throughout the tournament, the MU midfielder was not used by Tuchel for a single minute. After many matches, Mainoo would quietly walk through the mixed zone and was one of the first players to board the England team bus.

He had previously patiently waited for opportunities during the period when he was not favored under Ruben Amorim at MU. When Michael Carrick took over as head coach in January, Mainoo returned with a strong competitive spirit and gradually regained his position.

Manchester United hopes the English midfielder will show a similar response after the summer break. The fact that the injury is not serious allows Mainoo to participate in the important part of Carrick's pre-season plans.

According to the plan, Mainoo is expected to join MU during the training week in Dublin, starting from August 10th. Two days later, the "Red Devils" will play a friendly match against Leeds United at Croke Park.
