ASEAN Cup 2026: Indonesia's Most Formidable 'Weapon'

Born in 1998 in Oss, Netherlands, Ragnar Oratmangoen carries Indonesian heritage through his family from the Tanimbar Islands in Maluku province. After completing his naturalization process, the 28-year-old quickly became a key figure for the "Land of a Thousand Islands" national team.

Oratmangoen can play as a winger or attacking midfielder. According to Transfermarkt, he is valued at around €500,000 ($570,440). Before joining Persib Bandung earlier this month, Oratmangoen played for numerous Dutch clubs such as NEC Nijmegen, TOP Oss, Cambuur, Go Ahead Eagles, Groningen, and Fortuna Sittard, and also spent two seasons in the Belgian top flight with Dender.

For the Indonesian national team, Oratmangoen has scored 3 goals and provided 3 assists in 12 appearances. Notably, his first goal for Indonesia came in a 3-0 victory over Vietnam in the 2026 Asian World Cup qualifiers in 2024. He later scored against Bahrain and most recently against Oman.

Not a traditional striker waiting for chances, Oratmangoen stands out for his dynamic style. He frequently moves wide, drops deep to participate in buildup play, and plays a crucial role in Indonesia's fast counterattacks. His explosive speed, close control in tight spaces, and tactical intelligence make him a constant threat to opposing defenses. Besides scoring, he is also highly regarded for his decisive passes.

CNN Indonesia once praised Oratmangoen after the shocking 2-0 victory over Saudi Arabia in the third round of 2026 World Cup qualifiers. In the opening goal, he cleverly deceived the entire defense with a fake shot before suddenly passing to Marselino Ferdinan, who ran through to score.

Thanks to his excellent stamina and ball control, Oratmangoen can maintain a high work rate throughout the match, both creating opportunities directly and supporting teammates in attacking combinations.
