OFFICIAL: 7 more players called up to U23 Vietnam

The roster for U23 Vietnam's preparation is being unveiled, with the PVF Football Youth Training Center announcing that 7 of its students have been summoned for the second training camp of 2026, targeting the ASIAD 2026 in Japan.

The PVF Youth Football Training Center has just officially announced the news that up to 7 trainees have been called up to U23 Vietnam in the second training camp of 2026 to prepare for the men's football event at ASIAD 2026.

According to the announcement from PVF, Nguyen Quoc Toan, Le Thang Long, Nguyen Bao Long, Nguyen Hoang Anh, Nguyen Xuan Bac, Vo Anh Quan, and Nguyen Thanh Nhan are all included in the gathering list of U23 Vietnam. The training camp will take place from July 29 to August 6 at the headquarters of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF).

The fact that up to 7 players have been called up continues to affirm the training quality of PVF - one of the leading youth football centers in Vietnam. Most of these players have performed outstandingly in national youth tournaments, and many have been given opportunities to play in professional leagues, thereby accumulating more experience before stepping up to the national team level.

According to the VFF's plan, U23 Vietnam will gather from July 29 to August 6, 2026 to begin the second training camp of the year. This is considered an important phase to review the squad, assess form, and select the most suitable players for the ASIAD 2026 campaign in Japan in September.

Before PVF announced the list, the U23 Vietnam squad was gradually revealed from clubs. First, SLNA had three names: goalkeeper Cao Van Binh, center-back Le Nguyen Hoang, and midfielder Nguyen Quang Vinh. Then, The Cong Viettel confirmed six players including Nguyen Manh Hung, Nguyen Hoang Khanh, Tran Duc Duy, Nguyen Cong Phuong, Dang Tuan Phong, and Vu Quoc Anh were called up, alongside coach Thach Bao Khanh joining the coaching staff.

Notably, for ASIAD 2026, the VFF decided to use the U21 Vietnam squad for the men's football event instead of the U23 team as usual. This is a strategic direction to give young players exposure at the continental level, preparing resources for major goals in the 2027-2028 period.

In addition, Vietnamese football also received good news as it was placed in the top seed group for men's football at ASIAD 2026alongside hosts Japan, China, and South Korea, based on the grouping principle using results from the 2026 AFC U23 Championship. This result helps Vietnam avoid facing the three strong teams mentioned above from the group stage. The draw for group allocation will take place on July 23, with 15 teams divided into four groups: three groups of four teams and one group of three teams.
