HAGL and Sông Lam Nghệ An claimed the final two tickets to the U21 National semifinals, thus together with Hà Nội and Thể Công Viettel forming a contest between four time-honored training centers in Vietnamese football.
The last two quarterfinal matches of the National U21 Finals2026 concluded on the afternoon of July 21st with completely different scenarios. While HAGL had to endure a tense penalty shootout against PVF, Sông Lam Nghệ An showed their strength with a commanding win over SHB Đà Nẵng.
In the early match, HAGL and PVF started cautiously, prioritizing solidity in their own half. The two teams contested fiercely in midfield but created few clear-cut chances in the first half.
After the break, PVF had more possession and tried to increase the pressure. However, HAGL's defense maintained a well-organized shape, neutralizing most of the opponent's attacks. No goals were scored after 90 minutes, forcing the two teams to decide the winner on penalties.
In the moment that required composure, the young players from the Mountain City performed better and won 4-2. This result helped HAGL overcome a highly rated opponent to become the third team to book a spot in the top four.
In contrast to the tight contest between HAGL and PVF, Sông Lam Nghệ An quickly asserted their dominance against SHB Đà Nẵng. As early as the 4th minute, Phùng Văn Nam took a chance to open the scoring, giving the Nghe An representatives a psychological advantage very early on.
In the 38th minute, Bùi Thành Đức unleashed a beautiful shot after a corner kick, doubling SLNA's lead. SHB Đà Nẵng pushed forward in the second half and found a goal back from the penalty spot in the 69th minute through Lê Văn Quang Duyệt.
However, the comeback hopes of the Han River team did not last long. In stoppage time, Nguyễn Quang Vinh scored to seal a 3-1 victory, sending SLNA to the semifinals with a proactive and efficient performance.
Earlier, Hà Nội defeated Công an Hà Nội 4-2 on penalties after a 2-2 draw, while Thể Công Viettel beat reigning champions PVF-CAND by a narrow 1-0 score. Thus, the four teams advancing to the 2026 National U21 semifinals are Hà Nội, SLNA, Thể Công Viettel, and HAGL.
According to the schedule, Hà Nội will face SLNA at 15:30 on July 23rd. The other semifinal between Thể Công Viettel and HAGL takes place at 18:00 on the same day. The two winners will compete for the championship at 16:00 on July 25th.
