OFFICIAL: Six more players called up to U23 Vietnam

Following the 3 SLNA players, U23 Vietnam identifies 6 more from The Cong Viettel for ASIAD 2026 preparation.

The Cong Viettel Club has officially announced good news as Coach Thach Bao Khanh and 6 young players including Nguyen Manh Hung, Nguyen Hoang Khanh, Tran Duc Duy, Nguyen Cong Phuong, Dang Tuan Phong, and Vu Quoc Anh have been called up to U23 Vietnam to prepare for the ASIAD 2026 campaign in Japan this September.

In addition to the players joining U23 Vietnam, the military team also has more joy as Hoang Cong Hau has been called up to U20 Vietnam to prepare for the 2027 AFC U20 Asian Cup qualifiers.

Having up to 6 players in the next gathering continues to demonstrate the quality of The Cong Viettel's youth training. Many of these players have made their mark in national youth tournaments and have also been given opportunities to play in V.League and other professional arenas, thereby gaining more experience before joining the national team.

According to the plan of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), U23 Vietnam will gather from July 29 to August 6, 2026, for the second training camp of the year. This is an important phase to review the squad, refine professional skills, and select the best players for the men's football event at ASIAD 2026.

Previously, the call-up list was gradually revealed when SLNA was the first club to announce three players joiningincluding goalkeeper Cao Van Binh, central defender Le Nguyen Hoang, and midfielder Nguyen Quang Vinh.

Notably, the VFF has decided to use the U21 Vietnam squad for the men's football at ASIAD 2026 instead of the usual U23 team. This is seen as a strategic move to give young players international experience while aiming for long-term goals in the 2027-2028 period.

The Vietnam national team has officially been placed in the top seed group for the men's football at ASIAD 2026 along with hosts Japan, China, and South Korea, based on the grouping rule using performance at the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Cup. With this result, Vietnam's representative will avoid those three top opponents from the group stage. The draw ceremony will take place on July 23, while the 15 participating teams will be divided into 4 groups, including three groups of 4 teams and one group of 3 teams.
