Naturalized striker with over 200 goals unexpectedly joins relegated team

Hoàng Vũ Samson officially becomes a member of Becamex TP.HCM, carrying his expertise and natural finishing ability to take on the 2026/27 campaign.

Becamex TP.HCM continues to strengthen its squad ahead of the 2026/27 season by officially signing naturalized striker Hoàng Vũ Samson. Although he is now 38 years old, the seasoned marksman still enjoys full confidence from head coach Gerard Albadalejo and is expected to serve as a pillar for the team's attack in their V.League 2 journey.

As part of the preparations for the new season, Coach Gerard Albadalejo prioritizes experienced playerswho are familiar with Vietnamese football, aiming to shorten the adaptation period and quickly deliver results. After evaluating the squad, Becamex TP.HCM's coaching staff decided to select Hoàng Vũ Samson for the naturalized player slot, thanks to his proven class over many seasons.

Entering Vietnamese football in 2007 with Than Quảng Ninh, Samson quickly became one of the top strikers in V.League. He later played for Đồng Tháp, Hà Nội FC, Thanh Hóa, Quảng Nam, TP.HCM, and PVF-CAND. In 2013, the Nigerian-born forward completed his Vietnamese citizenship procedures and adopted the name Hoàng Vũ Samson, marking a special milestone in his career in the S-shaped land.

As of now, Hoàng Vũ Samson has scored 209 goals in V.League 1, a record among the best in the league's history. Last season alone, while playing for PVF-CAND, he contributed four crucial goals, including one against Becamex TP.HCM. Despite his age, the 1988-born striker maintains impressive fitness, positioning skills, and goal-scoring instincts.

Coach Gerard Albadalejo believes that age is not a barrier for players who maintain professional form. The Spanish manager cited examples of veteran stars who still shone at the 2026 World Cup, such as Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modrić, and Nicolás Otamendi, to affirm his confidence in Hoàng Vũ Samson. He expects the new signing to share goal-scoring responsibilities with Nguyễn Trần Việt Cường, Bùi Vĩ Hào, Võ Hoàng Minh Khoa, and the team's foreign players.

In recent days, Hoàng Vũ Samson has been in Bình Dương to join Becamex TP.HCM's camp and quickly adapted to the coaching staff's training program. With his vast experience and proven mettle in V.League, the naturalized striker is expected to become a key figure in helping Becamex TP.HCM achieve their goal of competing for promotion in the 2026/27 season.
