Hoàng Vũ Samson joins Becamex TP.HCM

The naturalized forward Hoàng Vũ Samson will wear the jersey of Becamex TP.HCM for the 2026-2027 V-League 2 campaign, following a positive assessment by head coach Gerard Albadalejo.

As part of the squad preparation plan for the new season, coach Gerard Albadalejo prioritizes adding experienced players who have proven their abilities in Vietnamese football to reduce adaptation time. Based on this, the coaching staff of Becamex TP.HCM unanimously selected Hoàng Vũ Samson for the naturalized player slot.

Joining Than Quảng Ninh in 2007, Samson quickly showcased his talent before successively playing for Đồng Tháp, Hà Nội, Thanh Hóa, Quảng Nam, TP.HCM, and most recently PVF-CAND. In 2013, he completed his Vietnamese citizenship procedures and adopted the name Hoàng Vũ Samson.

To date, the striker born in 1988 has scored 209 goals in V-League 1, with the most for Hà Nội FC at 93 goals. Last season, he contributed 4 goals for PVF-CAND, including crucial strikes that helped his team earn points against Thể Công Viettel, SHB Đà Nẵng, Hải Phòng, and notably a goal against Becamex TP.HCM in a 2-1 victory on February 7, 2026.

Although he is 38 years old, Hoàng Vũ Samson is still considered to maintain good form. Coach Gerard Albadalejo believes that the 2026 World Cup proves many veteran players like Lionel Messi, Nicolás Otamendi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modrić, Edin Džeko, Yuto Nagatomo, Axel Witsel, and goalkeeper Vozinha still perform effectively in their late 30s and beyond 40.

The Spanish coach hopes that Hoàng Vũ Samson’s experience, positioning ability, and goal-scoring instinct will help share the scoring burden with Nguyễn Trần Việt Cường, Bùi Vĩ Hào, Võ Hoàng Minh Khoa, and another foreign striker in the upcoming season.
