Smashing records but still unsatisfied! Mbappé: I would rather give up the World Cup all-time top scorer title than play in the final.

In the World Cup third-place match that concluded on July 19th Beijing time, France was defeated 4-6 by England, ending in fourth place. Despite the disappointing finish with two straight losses, Mbappé stood out individually with two goals and one assist in this game.

In this match for pride, France rotated heavily in the starting eleven. Yet Mbappé remained on the pitch from the start, determined to pursue the World Cup Golden Boot and various records.

However, during the first half, a seemingly disinterested French side conceded four goals in a row, leaving Mbappé with no choice but to smile awkwardly. Fortunately, after the break, France made four substitutions and regained some form. Within just 18 minutes, Mbappé recorded two goals and one assist.

With his brace in this match, Mbappé set several records. First, his total World Cup goals reached 22, surpassing Messi on the tournament's scoring chart and also overtaking Messi on the all-time personal World Cup goals list, now standing alone at the top.

Secondly, Mbappé scored 10 goals in this World Cup, becoming the fourth player in history to reach double digits in a single World Cup, behind only Fontaine, Kocsis, and Müller.

Third, Mbappé is also the first player in 66 years to score double digits in a single World Cup.

Fourth, with 10 goals and 4 assists in one World Cup, Mbappé contributed to 14 goals, becoming only the second player to be involved in 14 goals in a single World Cup, following Fontaine in 1958 (who was involved in 15).

Fifth, Mbappé scored 15 goals for France this season, setting a new single-season scoring record for the French national team, surpassing Fontaine's 14 goals in the 1957-1958 season.

However, despite all these records, Mbappé was not happy after the match. He said disappointedly in an interview: "Records? Messi will definitely score. I just want to help the team win. Scoring a lot of goals in the World Cup can certainly help you improve in some ways. I would rather not be the all-time top scorer and just play in the match tomorrow. From a historical legacy perspective, it's nice, but this match (the third-place game) was not my biggest concern."

Indeed, although Mbappé had outstanding individual stats for both Real Madrid and the French national team over the past season, he ended up empty-handed in team honors, and he is basically out of contention for this year's Ballon d'Or.
