Vietnam's opponent confidently enters the ASEAN Cup

Singapore's squad wrapped up a 12-day training stint in Okinawa, Japan, and is moving into the last stage of preparations ahead of the ASEAN Hyundai Cup 2026.

This is regarded as a crucial training period for coach Gavin Lee and his players, aimed at improving their technical quality and adaptability to the intense schedule of a short-term tournament.

Taking place from July 6 to 17, the training camp allowed the Singapore team to face three Japanese clubs in quick succession.

During this period, "The Lions" secured a 2-1 victory over Okinawa SV, drew 1-1 with FC Ryukyu, and lost 0-2 in the remaining friendly. All matches were held behind closed doors, so the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) did not disclose detailed match events or goal scorers.

Coach Gavin Lee assessed that the training camp provided many valuable lessons for the entire team. The 35-year-old manager stated that the players not only tested themselves against high-quality opponents but also experienced the demanding physical, tactical, and psychological challenges of playing consecutive matches in a short period. According to him, this is a necessary step for Singapore to aim for the best possible condition at the ASEAN Hyundai Cup 2026.

After returning from Japan, Singapore will finalize the remaining preparations before entering the ASEAN Hyundai Cup 2026 campaign.

In the group stage, the island nation's team will kick off with an away match against Vietnam on July 30, followed by clashes with Indonesia and Cambodia. This is expected to be a major challenge for coach Gavin Lee's squad as they aim for a spot in the semifinals.
