Speaking before the match in Miami Gardens, USA, manager Didier Deschamps admitted that France was deeply disappointed after their 0-2 loss to Spain in the semi-finals, but he insisted the team still has a responsibility to give their all in the final game. Deschamps emphasized: "Nobody wants to play a third-place match. We all wanted to be in the final. But when you wear the national team jersey, you have a duty to fight until the very last minute."

The clash with England will also mark the end of the 57-year-old coach's 15-year tenure as head of the French national team. During that period, Deschamps led Les Bleus to win the 2018 World Cup, finish as runners-up in the 2022 World Cup, and reach the final of EURO 2016. Deschamps shared: "I know tomorrow is my last match with the French team. Nobody here will cry, but I will definitely miss the team. This is the most beautiful thing in my career."

Center-back Ibrahima Konaté said the whole team wants to secure a victory as a farewell gift for the coach who has been with them for over a decade. Konaté stated: "He has brought so much joy to French football. We want to honor the coach with a final win."

On the other side, manager Thomas Tuchel is under significant pressure after England squandered a lead and allowed Argentina to come back and win 2-1 in the semi-final. The German tactician has been criticized for tactical adjustments that made the team too passive at the end of the match. However, the German coach defended his decisions. He said: "If someone needs to take responsibility, it's me. I am the head coach. But I will not blame anyone because the players gave everything."

According to Tuchel, fitness issues were the reason England could not maintain pressure in the closing minutes of the semi-final. The German strategist also admitted that the Three Lions still have a gap to close with top teams like Argentina, Spain, and France itself. Tuchel emphasized: "The other three teams entered the World Cup with the mindset that they had to win it, while we are still on a journey to turn a dream into reality. We must continue to close that gap." Even though it is only a third-place match, Tuchel believes it is still an opportunity for England to achieve their best World Cup result in nearly 60 years and to prove their resilience after the semi-final shock.

This match also offers a chance for stars from both teams to compete for the 2026 World Cup Golden Boot. French striker Kylian Mbappé has 8 goals, equal to Argentine superstar Lionel Messi, but trails in assists (3 vs. 4). Meanwhile, England's Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham still have hope of catching up, each having scored 6 goals.

With a packed schedule following a long club season, managers Deschamps and Tuchel are likely to rotate their squads, giving opportunities to young and reserve players to showcase their abilities. This also promises a more open and exciting match, as the pressure of results is not as heavy as in the semi-finals.
