Argentina's semi-final starting lineup revealed? 9 players reportedly locked in, possible switch to 3-man defense, 38-year-old legend to appear

The much-anticipated World Cup semifinal matchup between Argentina and England will take place in just two days. As of July 14th Beijing time, the Argentine leading newspaper *Olé* has shared insights on Scaloni's tactical choices for this key game.

*Olé* stated directly that Scaloni will definitely not field the exact same lineup used in the last two matches against Egypt and Switzerland. Facing a strong opponent like England in the semi-final, Argentina must adjust certain positions to improve performance and overcome obstacles.

In recent training sessions, Scaloni has mainly focused on two basic formations: 4-3-3 and 4-4-2. However, switching to a "three-man defense" and adopting a 5-3-2 formation is not ruled out.

This is an experimental formation, used on specific occasions, but it could come in handy against England. In World Cup history, Scaloni employed this setup during the previous tournament's 2-2 draw with the Netherlands, where Argentina dominated the game. Now, Scaloni may largely replicate that configuration.

In Monday's training session, Argentina indeed practiced this system. *Olé* reported that regardless of which system is used, nine players are essentially locked into starting positions. They are:Dibu Martínez, Romero, Lisandro Martínez, Tagliafico, Mac Allister, Paredes, Enzo Fernández, Messi, and Álvarez.

The remaining two starting spots could be full of variables. If playing with three center-backs, Scaloni clearly trusts Otamendi more than Senesi.

This 38-year-old legend with extensive experience in major tournaments may start over De Paul in the semi-final. As for the right wing-back, whether it will be Molina or Giuliano Simeone remains to be seen.

*Olé* noted that all of this is still undecided practice. Tuesday morning's training session will be the crucial moment to determine the starting lineup. There will be set-piece drills, and all suspense will be resolved.
