OFFICIAL: Manchester United announces the long-awaited record-breaking deal

Manchester United has officially confirmed the location for its new 100,000-seat stadium, marking a major milestone in the redevelopment plan for the Old Trafford area.

Manchester United has just revealed the official site of the new stadium with a capacity of 100,000 seats, one of the most ambitious projects in the club's history. The structure will be built approximately 350 meters northwest of the current Old Trafford stadium, becoming the centerpiece of the Trafford Wharfside regeneration plan.

Previously, the Old Trafford club had completed the purchase of about 10 hectares of land for the project. Choosing this new location also allows United to avoid buying land owned by Freightliner, which would have cost up to £400 million—far more than the original budget.

Manchester United's new stadium is expected to hold 100,000 spectators

According to the plan, the new stadium will have a capacity of 100,000 spectators, surpassing Wembley to become the largest football stadium in England and second only to Camp Nou (105,000 seats) in Europe. During construction, Manchester United will continue to use Old Trafford as their home ground.

In addition to the stadium, the project includes a new public transport system, walking and cycling routes, around 15,000 homes, and numerous commercial and entertainment zones. It is estimated that the entire complex could create about 48,000 jobs and contribute over £7 billion annually to the UK economy.

Old Trafford has been the home of the Red Devils for over 115 years

Collette Roche, Managing Director of Manchester United's new stadium project, stated: "The announcement of the masterplan marks another important milestone on the journey to build a new world-class home for Manchester United, located at the heart of a rapidly transforming area."

She also emphasized that the new location was chosen to preserve the traditional values of Old Trafford: "This site allows us to preserve the heritage, traditions, and matchday rituals that are so important to fans, while delivering modern infrastructure and a world-class experience."

Manchester United expects the project to generate around 48,000 jobs

According to the initial design, the stadium will feature an umbrella-shaped roof integrated with solar energy and rainwater collection systems. The construction is expected to take about five years and will become a new landmark for the Greater Manchester area.

The future of Old Trafford has yet to be decided. However, United's leadership insists that all developments will be centered around the fans.

"We want to build a world-class stadium with the fans, not just for them. Atmosphere, accessibility, and affordability will always be top priorities," stated Collette Roche.

If approved by Trafford Council in the near future, the project will move into a community consultation phase before officially breaking ground, opening a new chapter in Manchester United's century-plus history.
