Aomori agrees to join Fenerbahce, how much transfer fee can Manchester United get? Sir Jim Ratcliffe gathers funds for the first summer signing.

As reported by Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the representative of ex-Manchester United youth product Mason Greenwood has notified Turkish club Fenerbahce of their acceptance of the contract running until June 2030. This indicates that Fenerbahce has secured the player's consent, and they are currently in advanced talks with French club Marseille regarding a €40 million offer, which was formally presented on Wednesday.

Romano explained: "Today, Fenerbahce sent an official offer to Marseille for Greenwood. Their negotiations with Marseille are in the final stages, with a fixed transfer fee of €40 million plus add-ons, close to Marseille's €50 million asking price. Greenwood has already given the green light to Fenerbahce."

When Manchester United sold Greenwood to Marseille, they retained a 40% economic interest, meaning the club will receive two types of income from this academy player's transfer: a share of the transfer fee and solidarity compensation. There are varying estimates of how much the Red Devils will actually get. Romano claims United could receive around €6-7 million. "Greenwood is close to moving from Marseille to Fenerbahce, and Manchester United will get a significant sell-on clause, exceeding €6-7 million."

Another transfer expert, Ben Jacobs, gives a lower figure: "Greenwood is nearing a move to Fenerbahce, with a transfer fee of €45 million and a four-year contract. Upon completion, Manchester United will receive approximately €5 million. That's the clause stipulated in their contract when they sold the player for £26.5 million guaranteed."

French "RMC Sport" expert Fabrice Hawkins, who first broke the news of Greenwood joining Fenerbahce, offers a unique perspective: he claims that the €40 million is merely the fee to buy out 60% of the ownership from Marseille, and Fenerbahce will separately negotiate with Manchester United regarding the remaining 40% ownership.

In any case, it is true that Manchester United are close to receiving some income. Greenwood had previously agreed to join Roma in Serie A, but unfortunately, the Italian club never made an offer. Romano said: "Greenwood's deal with Fenerbahce is nearing completion, with both clubs in direct communication on details. The player is eager to join Fenerbahce because Roma never submitted an official bid. Fenerbahce are optimistic about finalizing the transfer quickly."

French newspaper *L'Équipe* reports that only Fenerbahce and La Liga's Atletico Madrid have made offers for Greenwood. Atletico proposed a package worth €45 million, including transfer fee, signing bonus, and commissions. From a sporting perspective, Atletico is undoubtedly more attractive, but lawyer Martin Badeworth recommended that Greenwood choose Fenerbahce due to their better terms and a playing style that suits him better. It is well known that Diego Simeone demands high tactical discipline, which is not Greenwood's strength.

Turkish media reports reveal that Fenerbahce aims to complete all transfer formalities by the end of this week, allowing Greenwood to join the team directly next week to prepare for the new season. Fenerbahce have previously signed several former Manchester United players, including Robin van Persie, Nani, and Fred, and former Red Devils manager Jose Mourinho has also coached the club.

Fenerbahce have finished as runners-up in the Turkish Super Lig for five consecutive seasons and are desperate to break Galatasaray's dominance. Additionally, this month they will face Poland's Górnik Zabrze in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League, and they are eager for Greenwood to strengthen the squad in order to reach the Champions League group stage and generate revenue.

BBC's Simon Stone reveals that after an internal investigation, Manchester United have decided not to consider re-signing Greenwood. Although the criminal charges against him were dropped in February 2023, the controversy surrounding him remains significant, and there are also concerns about his character and tactical discipline. Furthermore, United are not short of right-wingers, so they prefer to wait for his transfer and collect the sell-on fee.

Manchester United have already received €44 million this summer from Rasmus Hojlund's permanent transfer to Serie A side Napoli. Additionally, Andre Onana's loan renewal to Turkish club Trabzonspor brought in €1.5 million in loan fees. If Greenwood completes his move, the Red Devils' total transfer income will exceed €60 million (£51 million).

Coincidentally, this amount matches the transfer fee Manchester United will spend this week on signing Brazilian midfielder Andrey Santos from Chelsea.
