HOT: Vietnam's Ronaldo must undergo a trial at a V-League eighth-tier club.

At 34, Phi Sơn unexpectedly comes back to trial for his old side Hà Tĩnh — the club from his homeland where he previously served and wore the captain's armband.

Midfielder Trần Phi Sơn is currently training with Hồng Lĩnh Hà Tĩnh on a trial basis. If he meets the coaching staff's professional requirements, the Nghệ An-born player will have a chance to rejoin the team from the Red Mountain. In recent training sessions, Trần Phi Sơn has shown a serious attitude and actively completed all assigned drills.

The appearance of Trần Phi Sơn quickly drew attention from Hà Tĩnh fans, as he is no stranger to them. Having risen through the ranks of Sông Lam Nghệ An's academy, Phi Sơn was once known by the nickname "Ronaldo of Nghệ An" thanks to his speed, skillful technique, and unpredictable dribbling runs.

In 2021, Trần Phi Sơn joined Hồng Lĩnh Hà Tĩnh and spent four seasons with the club. During his time with the Red Mountain side, the midfielder born in 1992 not only contributed professionally but also left a mark with his fiery competitive spirit. That passion made him one of the most beloved players among Hà Tĩnh supporters.

After parting ways with Hồng Lĩnh Hà Tĩnh at the end of the 2024/2025 season, Trần Phi Sơn moved to play for Trường Tươi Bình Phước, now known as Trường Tươi Đồng Nai. This return for a trial therefore opens up an opportunity for him to reunite with the club where he spent a golden period of his career. Although he is now 34 years old, Phi Sơn is still expected to bring experience and creativity to the midfield.

Earlier, Hồng Lĩnh Hà Tĩnh went through a turbulent 2025/2026 season. In early May, the club's management decided to part ways with head coach Nguyễn Công Mạnh following a string of inconsistent results. Mr. Phan Như Thuật, former captain of Sông Lam Nghệ An, was appointed from round 22 along with two assistants, Phan Tiến Hoài and Trần Đức Toản, to chart a new direction.

In terms of form, the Red Mountain team faced heavy pressure in April after losses to Thép Xanh Nam Định, Hà Nội FC, Thể Công - Viettel, and a draw with PVF - CAND. However, a 1-0 victory over Hải Phòng FC helped them regain confidence. A turning point came on May 17, when Hồng Lĩnh Hà Tĩnh defeated HAGL 2-0 in Pleiku, thereby securing their survival in the league three rounds early.
