OFFICIAL: The first three players have been called up to Vietnam U23.

The lineup for Vietnam U23 preparing for ASIAD 20 has been unveiled step by step, featuring the first three players from SLNA.

To get ready for the 2026 Asian Games (ASIAD 20), the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has put together the list of players for the second training camp of U23 Vietnam in 2026.

Per the published list, SLNA club contributed three players: goalkeeper Cao Van Binh, center-back Le Nguyen Hoang, and midfielder Nguyen Quang Vinh. They will gather from July 29 to August 6, 2026 for training, friendly matches, and competition for a spot at ASIAD 20 in Japan this September.

The VFF has officially chosen the Vietnam U21 team to compete at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan, instead of using the usual U23 squad. This decision highlights Vietnam's long-term investment in football and gives young players a chance to gain experience at a major continental event.

According to the plan reported by the VFF and approved by the sports authorities, the ASIAD 20 squad will consist of U21 players. This is seen as a strategic step aimed at building resources for Vietnam football's key objectives in 2027-2028, rather than focusing only on short-term results at the Asian Games.

The roster of national teams competing in the men's football at ASIAD 2026 was finalized before the draw ceremony on July 23. Southeast Asia has three representatives, with Vietnam being considered to have a certain advantage and likely to be placed in a higher seed group due to its impressive performance at the 2026 U23 Asian Cup.

The men's football event of ASIAD 2026 will be held from September 19 to October 4 in Japan, featuring many top Asian teams. Vietnam is expected to rely on a core group of young players who have been developed recently. Additionally, the coaching staff has left the door open to adding some over-age players to strengthen experience and provide support for the youngsters on this major stage.
