Seasoned fighter Dương Thúy Vi once again demonstrates her elite level by securing the gold in the women's spear discipline at the 2026 World Taolu Cup held in Haikou, China.
During her performance this morning on July 8 at the Wuyuanhe Gymnasium, Dương Thúy Vi executed her spear routine and scored 9.746 points, placing first in her category.
The Vietnamese representative surpassed Malaysia's Pang Pui Yee, who won silver with 9.726 points. Third place went to Aksiniia Schukina with 9.723 points.
The spear gold medal holds special significance for Dương Thúy Vi, as it marks the first time the most decorated athlete in Vietnamese wushu has reached the top spot at the World Taolu Cup. Previously, she had won silver in the 2016 and 2024 editions.

Earlier, on the first competition day in Haikou, Dương Thúy Vi also won a bronze medal in the sword event. Thus, the Vietnamese female martial artist earned medals in both of her strong events at this year's tournament.
According to information from the organizing committee, the 2026 World Taolu Cup is the fourth edition of the event, bringing together 117 top athletes out of a total 206 members including athletes, coaches, and staff from 29 countries and territories.
The competition features 22 events for men and women, including barehand routines, short weapons, long weapons, and sparring sets, corresponding to 22 gold medal sets.
The International Wushu Federation (IWUF) designates the World Taolu Cup as one of its official high-level tournaments. Eligible athletes are mainly those who ranked among the top in each event at the most recent World Wushu Championships.
The World Taolu Cup returns to China after 10 years, since its first edition was held in Fuzhou in 2016.
At 33 years old, Dương Thúy Vi is currently one of the most experienced athletes with an outstanding international track record on the Vietnamese wushu team.
She is one of the key athletes that the Vietnamese wushu team is actively preparing professionally for the 20th Asian Games.
Her performance in Haikou serves as an important stepping stone for Thúy Vi in her preparation for the 20th Asian Games, to be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, this September.
