Goalkeeper Trần Trung Kiên confirms he is under no pressure competing for a position with Đặng Văn Lâm and Patrik Lê Giang, and also discusses the Vietnam national team's preparations before the ASEAN Cup 2026.
Speaking to the media before the afternoon training session on June 30 of the Vietnam national team at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center, goalkeeper Trần Trung Kiên stated that he does not feel pressured when competing for a spot with two experienced seniors, Đặng Văn Lâm and Patrik Lê Giang.
"I don't feel any pressure. The important thing is to always try my best in training and perform well in front of the coaching staff. Whoever is chosen to play will all aim for the common goal of bringing the best results for the team,"shared Trung Kiên.
The goalkeeper born in 2003 also said that this training camp is taking place in hot and humid weather conditions in Hanoi, making training more difficult. Nevertheless, the whole team is striving to adapt in order to have the best preparation before the training trip to South Korea and the ASEAN Cup 2026.
"This training camp has quite hot and humid weather, so training is a bit more challenging. However, the whole team is trying to adapt to have the best preparation,"Trung Kiên said.
Additionally, the Vietnam national team's goalkeeper also highly praised the ability of naturalized newcomer Nguyễn Tài Lộc to integrate. According to Trung Kiên, this striker did not take much time to get into rhythm with the whole team because all the players are already familiar with his personality and skills.
"Just as Quang Hải once shared, Brother Lộc is only new in name. But his personality, skills, and playing style are all very familiar to everyone. So he adapted very quickly to the whole team," the 22-year-old goalkeeper stated.
According to the plan, the Vietnam national team will train in Hanoi until July 1 before departing for South Korea on July 2. During the training camp lasting until July 14, Coach Kim Sang Sik and his players will play three friendly matches to review the squad and finalize the lineup before embarking on the journey to defend the ASEAN Cup 2026 championship.
