In a first-round women's singles clash at Wimbledon that ended on June 30 Beijing time, China's Zheng Qinwen lost 0-2 to the 36th-ranked Czech player Katerina Siniakova, extending her streak of first-round exits at Wimbledon to four years. Zheng has now been eliminated in the opening round of her last three major tournaments.

Prior to this match, Zheng and Siniakova had met four times, with Zheng holding a 1-3 record. All three of her losses occurred on grass courts, including two at Wimbledon. Meeting again this time, Zheng was still unable to break the spell.
In the first set, Zheng was broken in the fifth game, and Siniakova held serve in the sixth, putting Zheng in a 2-4 deficit. Both players then held their serves, and Zheng eventually lost the set 4-6.

In the second set, Zheng was broken again at the start, falling behind 0-2 early. After that, neither player managed to break serve. Zheng ultimately lost the set 4-6, and the match 0-2, bowing out in the first round of Wimbledon.

Zheng has now lost all four of her grass-court matches against Siniakova, including three consecutive defeats at Wimbledon. The Czech player has truly become a "nemesis" for Zheng.
Throughout the match, Zheng recorded 4 aces, 6 double faults, 26 winners, and 17 unforced errors, while failing to convert any of her 7 break points. After her exit from Wimbledon, Zheng will next compete in the WTA 250 tournament in Athens.
